These players flashed their skills all weekend long at Decatur Central High School and I was there to check them out. Here are my top overall guards from the event.
Michael Addison – 2025 – Brownsburg (IN)
I caught two of Addison’s games over the weekend and he played better and better as the weekend went on. He is a 5-foot-9 guard, is lightning quick, and was one of the best defenders in the event. An absolute pest on defense, he doesn’t back down from anything. On offense, he can shoot the three but loves to dribble drive past his slower defenders. Electric crossover. The class-of-2025 prospect was able to create space effortlessly with strong dribble moves as well as smart decisions with the ball.
Dayvion Ellis – 2025 – Saint Viator (IL)
Very athletic and bouncy guard with a ripped build. Explosive is the first word that comes to mind with Ellis. The 5-foot-10 guard elevated for a big-time slam off one foot, hyping up his team against Future Basketball. Scored ten points in a win over WM Lakers to close out a 4-0 weekend. High-level scorer who used spin moves, up-and-under layups, and more to finish around the rim with creativity.
Preston Kempf – 2025 – Providence (IN)
Kempf is a 5-foot-8 lead guard who distributed the ball with precision all weekend. He also balanced out his game with consistent scoring ability and steals on defense. A master with the ball in his hands, Kempf created space for himself by using screens well and calmly dribbling through traffic. He shot it well from outside and has a consistent floater that he pulls out on the drive. Creative finisher.
Josiah Calvin Josiah Calvin 5'10" | PG St. Viator | 2025 IL – 2025 – Saint Viator (IL)
Calvin was probably the top overall guard I watched play all weekend. The super quick 6-foot guard scored at will on Friday night, crafting his way through the lane with strong and efficient dribble moves and also hitting from deep. Calvin has tremendous vision and set up his teammates both inside and out. A terrific decision maker in transition as well. Flashy guard who will follow in his brother’s footsteps and produce at Saint Viator.
Bryce Snell – 2025 – Cincinnati Country Day School (OH)
Snell shined all weekend for Midwest Basketball Club, weaving his way through defenses with the ball on a string. He dropped several no-look dimes and hit some late, clutch threes in a one-possession game. Brings the intensity and loves to poke the ball out from behind on defense. He’s a Jose Alvarado-level pest on the defensive end with serious floor-general attributes on offense. Loved his competitiveness.
Joey Hernandez Joey Hernandez 5'9" | PG St. Viator | 2025 IL – 2025 – Saint Viator (IL)
Hernandez teamed up with Calvin for Greater Purpose and showed that he can score it at a high rate and lock down his defender all the way down the court. Strong guard plays bigger than his height and is a very tough and creative finisher at the rim. Good passer as well.
Jaxson Wanza – 2026 – Hamilton Southeastern (IN)
Wanza is a 6-foot guard who shined all weekend for Indy Nets. Very long and wiry but once he fills out, he will be very, very tough to stop. Has excellent quickness and patience with the ball in his hands. Elevated for jumpers all the way out past the three-point line. Loved the Euro move in transition.
Kam Hogan – 2025 – Fenwick (IL)
Hogan is a strong guard who ran the show for Future Basketball all weekend. Excellent leader who rallied his teammates before, during, and after the game. Bouncy guard who hops through the lane and is strong with the ball on his finishes. Also had multiple pull-up jumpers after coming to a quick stop. Solid ball-handler and defender as well.
