I was mainly focusing on the 2024s and 2025s this weekend, so let’s look at the Michigan guys who stood out in 2024 games that I saw throughout the weekend.
Uchenna Amene Uchenna Amene 6'2" | PG Detroit Catholic Central | 2024 State MI – 6’2″ SG – Southfield Christian (Reach Legends 2024)
Amene was the best player of the weekend, and it really was not too close. He scored 32 points against Mac Irvin Fire, and it seemed like he could not miss throughout the entire game. He knows how to get to his spot, and he has enough size to rise up over the defender. In addition to his scoring, he uses his quickness and fluidity in transition to make plays, and he facilitates the offense very well. Amene knocked down 5 threes and a couple of mid-range jumpers as well, and he continues to make a name for himself this year.
Ron Johnson – 6’2″ SF – Fraser (16U CTM Elite Red)
Johnson is a smaller wing, but he was able to make athletic plays all over this weekend. He is a physical finisher on the inside, and he even had a big dunk in transition. Shooting the ball, Johnson was able to create space off the dribble and hit his mid-range pull-ups. If Johnson can get more consistency with his outside shot, it will really take his game to the next level.
Justin Lifshay – 5’10″ PG – Cousino (Michigan Goonies 2024)
Lifshay is a smaller guard who runs the offense well and always looks to push the tempo. He is incredibly aggressive on the glass and tries to run and gun every time he pulls down a rebound. Despite his unselfish play, Lifshay also shot the ball well knocking down a pair of triples. He would have 11 points and several assists in the win on Saturday morning.
Bryce Omara – 6’7″ PF – Grand Blanc (Reach Legends 2024)
Omara is a huge power forward inside who scored the ball well all weekend. He is tough inside while having nice touch and smooth finishing skills. However, his biggest lift to his team came from the three-point line. He was 3-4 from the outside in the first half, and he was one of the major reasons why Reach Legends took down Mac Irvin. Bryce would finish with 14 points, and with his size and scoring, he will be a coveted recruit.
Derian Williams – 5’9″ PG – New Haven (Michigan Goonies 2024)
Williams is another smaller guard who is incredibly quick and scrappy, and he shot the ball incredibly well all weekend. He knocked down several mid-range jumpers, a pair of dribble pull-ups, and a triple. Williams had 11 points in the win on Saturday morning, and he continues to raise his stock.
Nicholas Speiser – 6’4″ PF – De La Salle Collegiate (Michigan Goonies 2024)
Speiser was the best player for the Michigan Goonies this weekend, and he was a dominating force in the paint all weekend. He is a strong force inside and dominated the glass on both ends. He has good range on the outside with a trio of triples from the outside. He has good footwork and a nice touch in the lane, and he should continue to develop into a scoring post presence.
