Continue ReadingI spent most of the day Saturday between Arsenal Tech High School and the Indiana Basketball Academy for the 2022 G3 Invitational. It was a good opportunity to get eyes on a bunch of Indiana AAU programs before heading into the scholastic portion of the summer schedule here in the Hoosier state. Earlier, I posed eight top performers from Saturday’s event. Now, let’s empty out the notebook.
George Hill 16u Starts the Day with a Win
It was the Azavier Robinson Azavier Robinson 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2025 State #88 Nation IN (Lawrence North H.S. 2025) show to begin the day at Arsenal Tech High School. The 6’0” guard poured in over 30 points in George Hill All Indy’s 72-57 win over All Area Basketball Gold. Zayvion Baker Zayvion Baker 5'10" | PG Terre Haute South | 2024 State IN (Terre Haute South H.S. 2024) also had 16 points for GHAI.
All Area kept it very close for the vast majority of the game. Demarkis Cole (Muncie Central H.S. 2024) was the most consistent threat. The 6’1” playmaking guard got to the basket well off of the dribble and showed his ability to make three’s off of the bounce as well. In the second half, Jye Rudolph (Franklin Central H.S. 2024) got hot from beyond the arc knocking down a trio of triples to keep the score close. However, in the end, it wasn’t enough as GHAI made enough foul shots to pull away.
Joey Brown Joey Brown 6'6" | SG North Central | 2023 State #280 Nation IN Returns to the Floor
After missing the month of April from an injury sustained in the Sectional, Joey Brown Joey Brown 6'6" | SG North Central | 2023 State #280 Nation IN (North Central H.S. 2025) was back at it on Saturday for George Hill All Indy 17u. His typical athleticism and versatility at 6’5” were on full display as he diced up the defense in the open floor. He will be a primary target during the live scholastic recruiting periods in June as college coaches get their first look at the high-major prospect in months.
Also starring for GHAI was 6’2” left-handed guard Omari Ferguson Omari Ferguson 6'3" | SG Indianapolis Metropolitan | 2023 IN (Indianpolis Metropolitan 2023). Ferguson is one of the most explosive athletes in the state and can be nearly unguardable when he gets going downhill to the rim. Impressive performance by him scoring it in a variety of ways.
Indiana Ice 16u Wins at the Buzzer
With just a few minutes remaining it appeared that Indiana Ice would comfortably when by double figures. However, a flurry of three-pointers by D1 Indiana 15u-Gizzi made it exciting at the end.
First, it was Moses Haynes (New Palestine H.S. 2025) who knocked in two in a row followed by his high school teammate Julius Gizzi Julius Gizzi 6'3" | SG New Palestine | 2025 State IN (New Palestine H.S. 2025) draining one that cut it to six points. Fast forward just a couple of possessions and Jack McKinsey Jack McKinsey 6'3" | SG Greensburg | 2025 State IN nailed one to tie it up at 66 a piece. McKinsey gave D1 Indiana a brief lead after finishing an And-1, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
Max Robertson (Tri-West H.S. 2024) and Deion Miles Deion Miles 6'0" | PG Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State IN (Hamilton Southeastern H.S. 2024) each had really tough interior finishes for Indiana Ice down the stretch as they escaped with a 75-72 victory. Robertson led all scorers with 17 points in the game.
Kyle Guy Elite Black 16u Wins in Comeback Fashion
Nitareon Tuggle Nitareon Tuggle 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2024 IN led a late double-digit comeback to lift Kyle Guy Elite Black 16u over Team Premier 16u 68-63. The super athletic guard scored a team-high 19 points including some tough shots late to secure the victory. A trio of Michigan prospects helped lead the charge for KGE as well, but 6’3″ wing Brady Fitzgerald Brady Fitzgerald 6'3" | SF Mount Vernon (Fortville) | 2024 IN (Mount Vernon Fortville H.S. 2024) stepped up at different times as well. Great win for this team.
Other Notes From the Day
- Joseph Annan Joseph Annan 6'7" | PF Pike | 2023 State IN (Pike H.S. 2023)…wow! The 6’7″ forward brings every intangible you could want to the table. Bouncy at the rim, gets vertical defensively, has good hands, rim runs hard, etc. He is one of the top under-the-radar prospects in the state at this point. Playing with Kyle Guy Elite White 17u.
- The Nicholls State offer that Sheridan Sharp Sheridan Sharp 6'2" | PG Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Ben Davis H.S. 2023) earned very recently won’t be his last. His length makes him a great perimeter defender while his playmaking skills separate him offensively. Great low/mid-major prospect.
- Circle City Shooters Elite 17u has some real players! Led by Jamir Carnell (Ben Davis H.S. 2023) they held their own against George Hill All Indy. Carnell is a 6’5″ super athletic forward that finishes above the rim and plays with a great motor.
- Watch out for Alex Troutman Alex Troutman 6'3" | SG Anderson | 2023 State IN (Hamilton Southeastern H.S. 2023) heading into his senior season. Much is made of HSE’s 2024 class, and rightfully so, but Troutman is a legitimate prospect in his own right. Excellent athlete, plays well in transition, and finishes around the rim at a high level.
