Continue ReadingI spent most of the day Saturday between Arsenal Tech High School and the Indiana Basketball Academy for the 2022 G3 Invitational. It was a good opportunity to get eyes on a bunch of Indiana AAU programs before heading into the scholastic portion of the summer schedule here in the Hoosier state. With a full notebook to still come later, let’s start with highlight eight of the top performers that I saw throughout the day.
Demarkis Cole (Muncie Central H.S. 2024/All Area Basketball Gold 2024): For about 28 of the 32 minutes against George Hill All Indy 2024, this 6’1″ guard kept his All Area team right in the game. This was my first chance to see Cole this spring and he showed off the ability to get to the basket consistently off of the dribble and create his own shot from the perimeter. Nice looking under-the-radar prospect.
Omari Ferguson Omari Ferguson 6'3" | SG Indianapolis Metropolitan | 2023 IN (Indianapolis Metropolitan 2023/George Hill All Indy 2023): You come across a lot of excellent athletes when scouting the sport of basketball. However, few are as elite of an athlete than Ferguson. The 6’2″ left-handed guard absolutely explodes to the rim off of the bounce and showed off a nice stroke from beyond the arc as well.
Jack McKinsey Jack McKinsey 6'3" | SG Greensburg | 2025 State IN (Greensburg H.S. 2025/D1 Indiana 2025-Gizzi): It was a pretty non-descript for most of the game for McKinsey. However, he lit it up down the stretch and just about won the game for D1 Indiana. The Greensburg product hit a couple of late three-pointers and finished an And-1 that briefly gave his team the lead late. He can get buckets in a hurry.
Keyon Garrett-Miller Keyon Garrett-Miller 6'1" | PG Southport | 2023 State IN (Southport H.S. 2023/George Hill All Indy 2023): Miller is one of the most underrated playmakers in Indiana’s Class of 2023. When I say that, I’m including us here at Prep Hoops Indiana up until this point as well. He is explosive off of the dribble, changes directions smoothly on the way to the basket, and is a good passer as well. All-around floor general.
Papi Rivera Papi Rivera 6'1" | PG North Central | 2025 State IN (North Central H.S. 2025/D1 Indiana 2025-Bonds): Admittedly I did not see “Papi” Rivera play today. However, the reports were so good that he had to be mentioned alongside the top performers of the day. After pouring in 25 points in a win on Friday night, Rivera was back it with 27 points in a win over GHAI on Saturday.
Max Robertson (Tri-West H.S. 2024/Indiana Ice 2024): This was my first opportunity to get a live scout on Indiana Ice’s 2024 group this spring. Robertson immediately stood out as a fundamentally sound guard that can score it in a variety of different ways. Sneaky athletic, nice pull-up jumper, and can get to the rack off the bounce.
Azavier Robinson Azavier Robinson 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2025 State #88 Nation IN (Lawrence North H.S. 2025/George Hill All Indy 2024): A 30+ point performance certainly qualifies you for top performer status. That is how this 6’0″ guard started the day off showcasing his excellent shot-making ability early Saturday morning. Not that there ever was any doubt, but Robinson is one of the best prospects in Indiana’s class of 2025.
Nitareon Tuggle Nitareon Tuggle 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2024 IN (NorthWood H.S. 2024/Kyle Guy Elite Black 2024): After a couple of pull-up three-pointers off of the dribble and a tough mid-range pull-up, “Nitro” capped it all off with an emphatic highlight reel slam through traffic. He is such an explosive athlete with ever-improving ball skill. Definitely one to watch heading into his junior season next year at NorthWood.
