Not only do you simply see them more over time, but also they physically develop and begin to look more like they will in college. However, in large part due to the success of our annual Prep Hoops Indiana Freshmen Showcase, we have always been ahead of the curve when it comes to covering and evaluating younger prospects. As the spring AAU season prepares to turn to the June scholastic period, let’s take a look back at five freshmen who have really stood out for their strong play.
Gavin Betten Gavin Betten 6'7" | PF Manchester | 2025 State IN (Manchester H.S. 2025/Indy Heat EYBL 2025): When we put out our initial Class of 2025 Top 50, Betten came in right at #50. Admittedly, it was because I simply didn’t know enough about him. He was underrated. Betten is a skilled 6’5″ forward with an intriguing variety of offensive skills. Has been a consistent fixture for Indy Heat EYBL 2025 this spring.
Garrett Clark Garrett Clark 6'4" | SG Portage | 2025 State IN (Portage H.S. 2025/94 Feet Elite 2025): Clark is coming off of a great weekend at the NY2LA Invite. The 6’2″ guard handles the ball well, creates his own shot from the perimeter, and is a very good shooter both off the bounce and the catch. Part of a super talented freshmen class at Portage. Poised for a big June and July.
Cedric Horton Cedric Horton 6'4" | SG Richmond | 2025 State #321 Nation IN (Richmond H.S. 2025/Team Teague 2025): Playing with a very talented Team Teague 2025 squad, Horton has stood out with his elite athleticism and ever-improving skill set. The 6’3″ wing with plus length is force in transition who can attack with the ball or fly up the sidelines looking for the throw ahead. Slasher/driver in the half court that can play above the rim. High potential prospect.
Hudson Horvath Hudson Horvath 6'1" | PG Park Tudor | 2025 State IN (North Central H.S. 2025/EG10 2025): This freshman has really burst onto the scene this spring as the consistent go-to scoring threat for a very good EG10 2025 team. Horvath led them to a win over Indy Heat EYBL back at the Run N Slam that turned a lot of heads around the state. Very skilled with the ball and an excellent shooter. Definitely a name to remember in the 2025 class.
Joshua Renfro Joshua Renfro 6'2" | SG Christian Academy | 2025 State IN (Christian Academy 2025/Indiana Elite Defenders 2025): Renfro is without a doubt one of the best shooters in Indiana’s Class of 2025. He has knocked them in from deep consistently this spring while playing with the Indiana Elite Defenders and is making a name for himself on a statewide level. Look for him to continuing to make waves as we head into the summer months.
