As would be expected, some players have excelled while some others have found less playing time than expected. And some are dividing their time between two sports and are not playing spring and summer basketball at a high level.
Based heavily upon the work done during their junior season, here are some of the changes to the 2023 top 20:
Will Anciaux Will Anciaux 6'6" | PF Kapaun Mt Carmel | 2023 State KS , the number one ranked player since the list was released, was bumped from the top down to number eight on the list. He was great for Kapaun last season, but he’s putting a lot of time and energy into football, where he has already committed to play at Kansas State.
Like Anciaux, Avery Johnson Avery Johnson 6'2" | CG Maize | 2023 KS and Tyler Little Tyler Little 6'5" | PF Galena | 2023 State KS took a little dip in the rankings because they have focused on football, where they are top prospects as well.
Marcus Zeigler Jr Marcus Zeigler Jr 6'2" | PG Wichita Heights | 2023 State KS assumed the top spot, having led Wichita Heights to a state championship this past spring.
Jack Voth Jack Voth 6'6" | PF J.T. Hoggard | 2023 State NC (pictured) leaped to number two on the list for his work at Buhler. He was named 4A Player of the Year for averaging 21 points and 10 boards a game.
And making an even bigger leap to reach the #3 spot was Grant Stubblefield Grant Stubblefield 6'2" | PG Blue Valley Northwest | 2023 State KS , the star of the 6A tournament for Blue Valley Northwest. Stubblefield joined Zeigler as the only juniors on the KSHSAA 6A first team. He scored 60 points in three games at state.
Leading your team to back-to-back state titles will get you a big jump, and Brekyn Ratzlaff Brekyn Ratzlaff 6'0" | PG Hillsboro | 2023 State KS did just that at Hillsboro. He averaged 17 points a game while orchestrating the offense and terrorizing opponents at the defensive end. He rose to #6.
Jaden Hamm Jaden Hamm 6'6" | C Eudora | 2023 KS earned an enormous bump by leading Eudora to the top-ranking in 4A. He is an athletic monster who has committed to play football at Arkansas. He owns the glass and is effective around the goal and in transition. He’s now #7 on the list.
Isaiah Atwater Isaiah Atwater 5'8" | PG Maize South | 2023 State KS is making a lot of noise this spring after an excellent season at Maize South last year. Though he’s not very big, he’s a versatile guard who scored 15 points a game while dealing out nearly 6 assists per game. His work earned him the #9 spot.
Like Hamm, Basehor-Linwood’s Tyson Ruud Tyson Ruud 6'5" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2023 State KS exploded all the way up into the top 20, in part because he is absolutely going off in spring ball.
