Continue ReadingThis afternoon Prep Hoops took-in some of the Battle at the Lakes 15U action at Apple Valley High School. Battle proves yet again to be one of the best independent events in the country, drawing all the best MN talent as well as many strong teams from the midwest and beyond! In this article we detail some of the best shooters we saw for the class of 2025. Every team needs a guy that can knock it down from deep. See who made the list below!
Jordan Holm (6-5 W/F, STMA)
AAU Team: Minnesota Matrix 2025 (@mnmatrix2020)
The Matrix were a very cohesive group that moved the ball well and got good shots all game long. Jordan was the beneficiary of a few of those open shots, knocking down some three-pointers to prove his range. His size and skill shooting the basketball poses problems at this level. It was nice to see Jordan make the extra pass in the second half even though he was having a good offensive game. Traded a few good shots for great shots/layups for his teammates.
Ezekiel Austin (5-10 G, Albany)
AAU Team: Minnesota Comets 2025 Hanson (@MNCometsElite)
Ezekiel has a really nice feel for the game. It seems like the Comets always find a heady guard like him for their teams that know how to make the little plays that contribute to winning. The Albany product shot it with confidence from behind the arc and connected on at least 2 in a big win over Minnesota Lightning.
Isaac Cordes (5-9 G, Shakopee)
AAU Team: Minnesota Fury Wilde 2025 (@mnfuryboys)
The three point make that stood out for Isaac was a contested corner three that he calmly knocked down after a driving teammate kicked the ball out to the perimeter. Isaac has a good finish to his release, and its clear he has earned the trust of his teammates as a knockdown three point shooter
James Martin James Martin 5'10" | PG East Ridge | 2025 State MN (5-10 G, East Ridge)
AAU Team: Minnesota Magic 2025 Premier (@MagicMinnesota)
Smaller in size but not in skill, you do not want to overlook James. He has a great feel for finding openings in the defense and hunting quality three point attempts. The smooth guard hit several threes in helping his team erase a double digit lead in a comeback win. What stood out to me was the confidence he displayed as a shooter. Once he got space, you knew the shot was going up with a great chance of finding the bottom of the net.
Isaiah Mahal Isaiah Mahal 6'2" | CG Northfield | 2025 State MN (6-1 G, Northfield) @IsaiahMahal
AAU Team: Minnesota Heat GNC 2025 (@HeatGNC)
Isaiah came out blazing in his first game of the day. Had at least 4 threes en route to a 15+ point performance. His shot is compact and consistent. The Northfield product has long arms and big feet. If he can continue to be such a consistent threat from the perimeter as he grows into his body, he will be a problem at the High School level. Was fun to see him flash an efficient mid-range game too, given how infrequent we see that nowadays.
Riley Mueller Riley Mueller 6'0" | CG Hortonville | 2025 State WI (5-11 G, Hortonville) @RileyMueller23
AAU Team: All Wisconsin AAU 2025 (@ALL_WI_AAU)
Riley was a bright spot in a tough loss for All Wisconsin against a good MN Matrix team. He is a threat as soon as he crosses half court, and knocked down a few DEEP threes. As the Matrix adjusted and identified Riley as a shooter, he did a good job of not settling and getting downhill to create scoring opportunities for his team.
Cameron Begalle Cameron Begalle 6'1" | PG Andover Highschool | 2025 State MN (6-1 G, Andover)
AAU Team: Northstar Titans 2025 Bertsch (@NorthstarTitans)
Most players should be expected to hit the open three, but what separates average from great shooters is if you can connect in pressure situations. Cameron rose to the challenge today and did just that, finding the bottom of the net from 3 as things got tight in a close win for his team.
