PG Treyton McCain Treyton McCain 6'1" | PG Decorah | 2024 State IA (Decorah)
McCain is a quick lead guard with the ability to blow by defenders and get to the bucket where he is a strong finisher. He does a great job playing with pace, changing speeds to make his first step look even quicker, and he has really developed his jumper over the last few years, turning himself into a dangerous perimeter shooter as well. A high IQ guard who understands angles on both ends of the floor, he’s a really good passer who loves to get others involved, and he positions himself well on the defensive end.
SF Caden Wilkins Caden Wilkins 6'7" | SF Bettendorf | 2024 State #196 Nation IA (Bettendorf)
Wilkins has been the top-ranked player in the 2024 class since we put the initial rankings together, and he continues to tighten his grip on that spot with his stellar play this spring. To me, he looks like a prospect on the verge of cracking into the national top 100 or top 150 rankings. A 6-6 wing who can score effortlessly from all three levels, he’s a high IQ player who moves incredibly well off the ball and uses his big, physical frame to power through contact for scores in the paint. He has a pretty stroke from the arc that is always balanced and when he’s in attack mode, he’s nearly impossible to defend.
PF Gage Kampman Gage Kampman 6'7" | PF Iowa City Liberty | 2024 State IA (Liberty)
Kampman is an intriguing big man prospect to monitor over the course of the next two years. He’s 6-7 with a wingspan that is probably approaching 6-10, and he’s an athletic rim-runner who can protect the paint and doesn’t get lost when he’s switched onto a smaller player on the perimeter. He’s raw offensively but has good hands and decent touch around the rim. If he can add a little bit of range to his arsenal, he could become an interesting Division II player for teams to keep an eye on. His defensive versatility, length, size, and athleticism will make him a coveted prospect and any offense that he can give you is an added bonus.
SF Kareem Earl Kareem Earl 6'5" | SF Iowa City West | 2024 State IA (Iowa City West)
Earl has been right behind Wilkins in the 2024 rankings throughout the first year of them being live, and he has shaken off an up-and-down high school season by putting together a really strong start to the spring. An athletic 6-5 wing who can score from all three levels, he does a great job playing under control and never getting sped up. He knows his spots and how to get to them and doesn’t force anything. He handles the ball well for a young wing his size, shoots it at a high clip, and can make plays for others.
C Asher Wade (Bettendorf)
Wade was incredibly impressive in the Barnstormers loss to Mac Irvin Fire, an EYBL team filled with elite size and athleticism. He was matched up against a 6-10 big man who holds an offer from TCU and more than held his own, not allowing the big man to back him down, holding his ground, and limiting his effectiveness. A 6-7 big man with a big, physical frame, he uses his strength well on the defensive end and has the athleticism and IQ to defend out on the perimeter occasionally as well. He has soft hands and is decisive when he catches the ball on the block, using his quick feet to score around the bucket with either hand. He’s an excellent rebounder on both ends of the floor. We’ll be updating player rankings towards the end of the month or early in June, and Wade will be making a very high debut in the 2024 rankings.
PG Kyler Gerardy Kyler Gerardy 6'0" | PG North Scott | 2024 State IA (North Scott)
Gerardy is a typical North Scott guard – tough, physical, defensive-minded, and a high IQ player who limits mistakes on both ends of the floor. He’s fearless and won’t back down from anyone on either end, always looking to defend the opposing team’s top perimeter option, and embracing contact and physicality on the offensive end. He’s a reliable ball-handler and decision-maker who limits turnovers and can knock down jumpers when he’s left open.
Black
CG Payton Hagans Payton Hagans 6'0" | SG Mount Pleasant | 2024 State IA (Mount Pleasant)
A 5-11 guard who can play both with and without the ball, Hagans showed himself to be a knockdown shooter off the catch and a viable playmaking threat when attacking off the dribble. He does a really good job moving without the ball when he’s playing with another primary ball-handler, utilizing off-ball screens to free himself up for open looks from deep. He’s a really good shooter off the catch, getting his feet set and squared with a quick release. When he has the ball in his hands, he’s a reliable ball-handler and decision-maker who can get others involved at a high level.
SG Eli Ricketts (Denver)
A 6-0 off-ball guard, Ricketts showed some of his scoring ability during the high school season, averaging 8.1 points a game for a very good Denver team while shooting 45.5% from behind the arc. And watching him against Sacred Hoops, it’s easy to see why he was able to put up those types of numbers as a sophomore. He’s a confident scoring threat who shoots it extremely well off the catch. He has a lightning-quick release and unlimited range, but he doesn’t force up bad shots either. With three of the top four scorers from last year’s Cyclones team graduating, Ricketts could emerge as one of the state’s leading scorers as a junior.
SF Keenen Wiley (Mason City)
A long, athletic, and rangy 6-5 wing who can make a major impact on the defensive end, Wiley was a pleasant surprise in Black’s win over Sacred Hoops. He gets into passing lanes and does a good job moving his feet on the defensive end, providing versatility on that end of the floor. He showed some ability to put the ball on the floor and create for others from the perimeter, getting the defense to collapse and then kick out to open shooters. He uses his length well on the glass, rebounding at a high level on both ends of the floor.
SF Trevan Krumrei Trevan Krumrei 6'5" | SF Kennedy | 2024 State IA (Linn-Mar)
Krumrei was dominant when we saw the Black team play against Sacred Hoops, showing his ability to score from all three levels. A 6-5 wing who can score off the dribble or the catch, he showed a smooth release on his jumper off the catch as well as the ability to move off the ball and find spaces in the defense. With his size, he can get to his shot pretty much whenever he wants. He uses his length effectively on the defensive end, getting into passing lanes and turning defense into quick and easy offense, and he rebounds well on both ends of the floor. He should become an impact player at Linn-Mar as a junior.
PG Caeden Terrell Caeden Terrell 6'1" United Township | 2024 IA (United Township, IL)
Terrell played really well as a lead guard, getting others involved throughout the game. He’s a very good ball-handler and decision-maker who values possessions and rarely gives it away. He showcased a really smooth mid-range game, getting into his shot quickly off the dribble and repeatedly burning the opposition with his ability to stop on a dime and elevate into his shot. He has quick feet and hands on the defensive end and moves well on that end of the floor, making opposing ball handlers work hard.
