I focused primarily on the 16U Division and wanted to bring light to as many players as possible. I did watch some 15U on Sat-Sun and 17U on Friday night.
There were 22 16U teams, which was 9 more then in Seal Beach/CA. So I made five All-16U Tournament teams featuring eight-nine players per team.
Here is the 3rd team breakdown of the eight players:
John Troolin John Troolin 6'3" | SG Cambridge | 2024 State MN Minnesota Spartans 2024
The sharp shooter of the stacked team from Minnesota was Troolin. He squares up like you should and has one of those strokes that look good every attempt. He has a quick trigger and seems to relocate often to find open spots in the defense. He had some big shooting games this past weekend.
Tyler Pitts SF/CG 6’2 2025 Rancho Cucamonga/CA (Rancho Elite 2024)
A defensive minded wing forward. He plays and defends the 1-3 for Rancho Elite and has a big motor. He scores it different ways from the catch-3, euro steps and cutting to the basket. When he is on the ball, he made a few incredible passes up the court to cutting teammates.
Isaiah Berg Isaiah Berg 6'7" | PF Mica Mountain | 2024 State AZ (AZ Premier 2024)
A newcomer for me from Mica Mountain played well on the Tucson based team. He can score through contact and fade away from his defender inside the paint. He can face-up from elbow and in but seems to work best closest to the basket. He plays hard and rebounds in his area. He will score on put backs plus is a good passer.
Brandon Nunez Brandon Nunez 5'11" | PG Perkiomen School | 2024 State PA (AZ Select Jerrica 2024) (Pictured)
A strong bowling ball type of downhill scorer can facilitate and shoot. He loves getting into the paint and scoring but hits 3’s off the catch and has advanced court vision. He can pull-up from mid-range with high elevation and is a gamer with elite competitiveness. His passing skills really stood out. He shows great timing with pick and roll, up the court and threading the needle in traffic to teammates.
Drew Pierce CG 6’1 2024 Temecula Valley/CA (IE Fire Elite 2024)
A combo guard with a good feel for the game who always seems to make the correct decision. He can shoot off the catch or pull from mid to the 3pt line. He changes speeds well and will burst by. His pull-up off the dribble is tough to defend. I love how he plays the game.
Andrew Florez Andrew Florez 6'2" | SG Bloomfield | 2024 State NM (New Mexico D1 2024-1)
The sniper of the New Mexico team carried them during many stretches of multiple games. He gets hot from deep in a blink of a eye. He can also put the ball on the deck and use the floater effectively to score and pull-up from mid-range when the defense pushes him off the line.
Milton Rice SF 6’3 2024 Hightower/TX (Fresno Flyers Elite 2024)
A versatile wing forward has many traits to like. He was one of the best rebounders at the event, considering he is only 6’3, was impressive. He is a quick second jumper and grabs the ball at its highest point with two hands. He made a few catch-3’s, creates his own offense getting to the basket and plays the passing lanes to collect steals.
Charley Reado CG 6’0 2024 Elkins/TX (Fresno Flyers Elite 2024)
A long combo guard with a pretty shooting stroke. He has a quick and shifty handle and changes speeds to get defenders off of him. He is a good passer but his scoring makes him the tough cover. He moves without the ball and once he gets into the lane he uses the floater game efficiently.
