Today we take a look at some of the biggest risers to the rankings from our state.
Jack Voth Jack Voth 6'6" | PF J.T. Hoggard | 2023 State NC , 6’5 W/F, Buhler HS, Buddy Buckets KS, 20 to 2 – 18 spots: One of the elite shooters in the class of 2023 with great size along the perimeter and has grown the ability to mix it up more inside against mismatches. Put up monster numbers for a really good Buhler team and continues to shine with Buddy Buckets KS. Voth is lethal in the face up/square up game and in the catch and shoot game. A smooth operator on the offensive end with big time shot making ability.
Grant Stubblefield Grant Stubblefield 6'2" | PG Blue Valley Northwest | 2023 State KS , 6’3 PG, Blue Valley Northwest, Run GMC, 32 to 3 – 29 spots: The 6A player of the year saw his stock sore this evaluation period with really solid play for Run this spring as well. The stocky athletic point guard understands the game really well and has playmaking ability for himself and others. Really gets in the paint purposefully and is a strong finisher of the basketball with shot making ability. Has the athletic tools and savvy that allows him to be a really good defender. One of my favorite point guards to watch operate in big games.
Brekyn Ratzlaff Brekyn Ratzlaff 6'0" | PG Hillsboro | 2023 State KS , 6’1 PG, Hillboro, Oz Elite 2023, 24 to 6 – 18 spots: Another state title run where Ratzlaff helped run the freight train that is Hillsboro. The shifty, athletic, and dynamic point guard put together another terrific high school season and fills nicely on the grassroots scene in a solid role for a loaded squad. Can take over ball games with the ball in his hands, or facilitate at a high level to make his teammates better. Averaged over 17 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds per game this year.
Jaden Hamm Jaden Hamm 6'6" | C Eudora | 2023 KS , 6’6 F, Eudora, 71 to 7 – 67 spots: The big bodied athletic four/five man had a terrific season helping lead a really good Eudora squad. The multi sport dominant athlete continues to raise his stock across the board. Defends on the ball and in help at a high level, blocks shots, one of the elite rebounders in the class, and controls the painted area. Really good multi tooled offensive weapon for a front court player who is really explosive.
Isaiah Atwater Isaiah Atwater 5'8" | PG Maize South | 2023 State KS , 5’10 PG, Maize South, MoKan 2023, 31 to 9 – 22 spots: The super quick and dynamic point guard from maize south saw a 22 spot boost after a terrific season showing off the point guard skills at south and a very impressive spring run with MoKan. Atwater has great change of pace, a quick first step, gets by the primary defender consistently, and is always looking to make the most efficient play possible. Atwater is a game controlling point guard and can put defenses at his will.
Tyson Ruud Tyson Ruud 6'5" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2023 State KS , 6’6 W, Baeshor-Linwood, SSA Elite 2023 Black, 64 to 19 – 45 spots: After a terrific high school season where he nearly averaged a double double, arguably the most athletic player in 2023 is off to a scorching start for the spring session with SSA Elite. The 6’6 Wing can absolutely fly and has multiple eye popping and highlight making dunks this spring along with multiple big time blocks that have replay value. Another quality that catches your attention with his size and his length is his + 40% three point shooting. Can guard 2-5 and is a high level rebounder on both ends of the floor.
Wyatt Spexarth Wyatt Spexarth 6'3" | SF Andale | 2023 State KS , 6’3 SG, Andale HS, 59 to 45 – 14 spots: The Andale shooting guard is another elite shooter in this class who also has great wing size on the perimeter. Andale was a huge threat this post season and Spexarth was the catalyst for that success. The two/three guard garnered a ton of post season accolades with his ability to knock down shots, attack closeouts, and creating his own shot being big reasons why.
Jace Steinmetz Jace Steinmetz 6'3" | SF Garden City | 2023 State KS , 6’3 SG, Garden City, SSA Elite 2023 White, 65 to 54 – 12 spots: Had a semi productive high school season but Steinmetz has shown this spring that he has put in the work in between the two seasons. He has been on an absolute tear this spring shooting over 43% from three through 4 tournaments and averaging over 16 points per game. The Garden City guard also has great size and has shown an improved ability and willingness to rebound it which has added another element to his production. He looks poised for a big summer and Senior campaign with his shot making ability from three and the mid range with an improved floater and finishing package.
Carson Bennett Carson Bennett 6'2" | SF Hugoton | 2023 State KS , 6’3 W, Hugoton, WKE, 81 to 68 – 13 spots: A multi tooled weapon for a really goof Hugoton team this last year. A really good athlete on the wing, Bennett is a stat stuffer with a versatile skill set scoring it as a slasher and a spot up shooter. Bennett has the tools and willingness to be a really good defender as well. We liked what he has done lately with slashing and a strong transition presence. Averaged 13 points and almost 6 rebounds a game this high school season for Hugoton.
