A number of these players are still playing AAU basketball to showcase themselves during the two live periods in the month of April. Here’s a look at the top combo guards in the state that are still available to sign.
Malik Ross Malik Ross 6'0" | CG Tualatin | 2022 State OR (2022 Tualatin) – Ranked #8
Ross is one of the top athletes in the entire state – in football, he earned 6A offensive Player of the Year honors. In hoops, he’s a multi-year All-League honoree who also earned First Team honors at the 6A state tournament and averaged 12.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. Ross specializes at getting to the hoop and drawing contact, often finishing through it. While he’s still considering small college options in both sports it appears his love for basketball may win out.
Noah Ogoli Noah Ogoli 6'2" | CG Tualatin | 2022 State OR (2022 Tualatin) – Ranked #9
The 6-foot senior was player of the game in the 6A title contest and averaged a team-high 16.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.9 steals on over 50 percent shooting from the field. Ogoli is simply a great all-around guard who plays hard on both ends, specializes in the pull-up jumper, and really gets out in transition and finishes around the hoop. He’s being recruited by schools at the D-II, D-III, NAIA, and JC levels.
Dimitri Cohen Dimitri Cohen 5'11" | CG Mountainside | 2022 State OR (2022 Mountainside) – Ranked #19
Mountainside advanced to its first-ever state tournament behind the strength of its seniors and it could be argued that Cohen was the top one. The 5-foot-10 guard averaged a team-high 13.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.8 steals while shooting over 37 percent from three-point range. Cohen can get hot from the perimeter with his step-back threes but also convert on tough drives to the hoop, using his college-ready body to absorb contact. He’s currently a strong lean to Pacific.
Dylan Westlake Dylan Westlake 6'0" | PG Mountainside | 2022 State OR (2022 Mountainside) – Ranked #37
Westlake moved to Oregon prior to the shortened 2021 season from Alaska and instantly made an impact with his end-to-end speed and ability to drive to the hoop and get buckets. The 6-foot guard averaged 11.5 points. 2.7 rebound, and a team-high 3.0 assists while shooting a sizzling 58 percent from the field. While not necessarily a knockdown shooter, Westlake will hit threes when left open and takes good care of the basketball.
Junior Sleezer Junior Sleezer 6'2" | CG South Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 South Medford) – Ranked #43
Sleezer was the Southwest Conference Player of the Year after averaging 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while being South Medford’s defensive stopper on the perimeter. The 6-foot-2 guard is a versatile player who can shoot from the perimeter or get to the basket, creating for himself and for others.
“It started off rough as I wasn’t playing confident and I wasn’t doing enough to get playing time – and I wasn’t getting playing time,” Zeller said.
