Continue ReadingI spent Easter weekend catching up on some film and specifically checked out 10 games from last weekend’s first session at Under Armour. The action allowed me to see some of the best teams in the Midwest and in the country. In this first piece, I will be reviewing the top performers from Ohio and Kentucky as there were multiple top performers worth mentioning.
Tyson Barrett Tyson Barrett 6'8" | PF Frederick Douglass | 2023 FL Frederick Douglass (B Maze Elite)
Barrett was impressive on film with flashes of athleticism and crafty play. Shots certainly weren’t falling early for him, but he was able to get shots when he wanted around the rim. Barrett has potential to be a LM caliber recruit when he is knocking down shots.
Caleb Brooks Caleb Brooks 6'9" | C Cooper | 2023 State KY Cooper (Grand Park Premier)
Brooks plays with a certain toughness I’ve seen previously from Grand Park Premier and their top tier teams. Very physical and plays bully ball on the blocks. Brings contact and physicality to the blocks and will compete against any opponent in the interior. Automatic on the glass.
Chase Walker Chase Walker 6'8" | C St. Charles | 2023 State OH St. Charles (Nova Village)
Watching Walker it is apparent he is one of the truly biggest players I’ve seen in the past 5 years. His frame is that of an offensive lineman. Nice body control and fundamentals around the rim. Stretches the floor and shown he can step out and knock down perimeter shots. Walker moves very well for a big man and impressed me with his skillset along with size. Already picked up an offer from Boston University and very well could add more offers soon.
Ryan Nutter Ryan Nutter 6'3" | PG Dublin Jerome | 2023 State OH Dublin Jerome (Nova Village)
Nutter was very poised with the ball. Leader in the backcourt and unselfish with the basketball. One of my favorite things with Nutter is his body language and leadership. Even on film, you could see Nutter constructively leading his teammates. He can be an intriguing prospect to watch the rest of AAU season.
Gabriel Dynas Simon Kenton (Griffin Elite)
Dynas brings incredible length at 7-foot-2 which was fun to watch his use. The big man is long and showed some versatility in his offensive game. Can shoot the ball a bit on the perimeter if forced outside the paint. I’d like to see him be more focused on the blocks, but the ability to stretch the floor makes Dynas a mismatch. I felt he also defended the post well and contained opposing bigs from getting into a groove.
