NorCal had a good number of programs participating in this event. Prep Hoops NorCal was fortunate to see a couple of NorCal teams play. Here’s our of NorCal Standouts who played well while we were there.
Caden Pinnick Caden Pinnick 6'0" | PG Del Oro | 2024 State CA-N 5’11 2024 PG of Team California. 16U Adidas Gold. Del Oro HS Roseville, CA.
Pinnick is a muscular guard with quickness and speed. He has the ability to go by most defenders with his quick crossover moves going to the basket. He’s an excellent distributor with good vision, he uses his speed to push in transition, causing problems for defenders trying to stay in front of him. He can get into the paint, for floaters and paint jumpers, plus finish through contact. He can hit open 3’s. He has the speed to defend on ball. He’s on the Watch List
Marcus Robinson Marcus Robinson 6'3" | CG Miramonte | 2024 State CA-N 6’3 2024 SG of Team California. 16U Adidas Gold. Miramonte HS Walnut Creek, CA.
Robinson has a reliable shot from the 3pt line that you have to account for. He can hit in the corners on the catch or he can drop one in rhythm in transition or off the bounce on the wings. He has good handles, and patience to work his way in for a paint jumper. He moves well without the ball, good shot selection, takes what the defense gives him. He’s on The Wright’s Watch List.
Jermaine Haliburton Jermaine Haliburton 6'2" | PG Inderkum | 2023 State CA-N 6’1 2023 PG of PHPS 17U Adidas Gold. Inderkum HS Sacramento, CA.
A skilled guard who has the tools to properly execute at the point guard position. He has the vision to spot cutters to the basket, make good post entry passes, and he’ll find shooters spotting up on the perimeter. He’s a good handler who can use screens to his advantage. He has a quality mid-range jumper, he can get into the paint to finish drives.
Jalen Newhouse Jalen Newhouse 6'2" | PG El Camino | 2023 State CA-N 6’2 2023 SG of SF Rebels 17U Adidas Gold. El Camino HS Sacramento, CA.
Newhouse a no nonsense shooting guard we’ve seen steady improvements to his play at the position. He’s a strong guard who’s starting to create his own shot opportunities when he has the ball. He used ball fakes, solid handles, and footwork to get his shot off. He can finish tough shots in transition, he goes hard to the rim. He has an improving mid-range and 3pt jump shot. He can defend on the perimeter.
Malachi Miller Malachi Miller 6'3" | SG Central Catholic | 2023 State CA-N 6’3 2023 SG of SF Rebels 17U Adidas Gold. Central Catholic HS Modesto, CA.
A big physical guard who punishes defenders on his way to the basket. He has good athleticism and hops. Miller uses his body and strength, along with good hops to be an effective finisher in transition or going up against bigger players in the post area. He knocked down mid-range jumpers with a hand in his face. He has the footspeed to defend guards on the perimeter and strength to help defend in the post.
Fedrick Purnell Fedrick Purnell 6'3" | PG Sacred Heart Cathedral | 2024 State CA-N 6’0 2024 PG of SF Rebels 16U Adidas Gold. Sacred Heart Cathedral HS San Francisco, CA.
Pernell is honing his skills as a quality facilitator. He runs the offense with patience up top, looking to balance the floor. His handles and decision making were noticeable. He sees the court well finding his shooters and paint scorers with solid passing. He can penetrate the paint for floaters and paint jumpers, and knock down the open shot to keep defenders honest. He can defend in open space.
Jonathan Chapple Jonathan Chapple 6'0" | PG Oakland | 2024 State CA-N 6’1 2024 PG of SF Rebels 16U Adidas Gold. Albany HS Albany, CA.
Chapple is a quality guard with the skills to play either guard position. He’s a confident player knowing he can score or create a buckets for himself. At this event he was more of the traditional point guard looking to run the offense and get others involved. He’s a quality handler, and passer who can get into the paint for finishes or drops offs to a big. He has the footspeed to defend on ball in open court.
