ND Phenom and the Pentagon Schoolers all have loaded teams. If you do not see them in this article, they are still likely to have a big weekend. Stay tuned and keep an eye out for who is performing at Prep Hoops Live!
Darik Dissette Darik Dissette 6'4" | SG Minot | 2023 State #300 Nation ND (2024) |6’4 SG| ND Phenom/Minot
His stock just continues to rise. Dissette was the State Tourney MVP and a Champ. Two weeks ago he showed up and showed out in Indy. This brought on a scholarship offer from UND. What is next for the stud from Minot? Certainly great things! If you are at Prep Hoops Live, he is a must-see player. Darik is a super defender and a D1 athlete. His pull-up game is outstanding and his finishing game is spectacular. Darik will do nothing but impress people this weekend.
Anthony Doppler Anthony Doppler 6'4" | SG Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND (2023) |6’4 SG| ND Phenom/Bismarck Century
Much like two of his teammates, Doppler received a D1 offer after The Stage in Indy. Doppler stood out 2 weeks ago and he was an All-Tournament Team (1st) Player. I am expecting big things from him again this weekend in KC. Anthony is a deadly shooter from NBA range and every other spot on the way to the rim. His pull-up game is always spot-on and he is a clutch performer. I am assuming there will be plenty of college coaches lined up to watch him at Prep Hoops Live.
Ryan Erikson Ryan Erikson 6'10" | C Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND (2023) |6’10 C| ND Phenom/Bismarck Century
He played so well during the last Live Period that UND made an offer. A few days after The Stage in Indy, Ryan committed to the Fighting Hawks! He is the first D1 commit from the 2023 class in North Dakota. Expect the big man to have an excellent follow-up performance at Prep Hoops Live. He should be playing with plenty of confidence after signing with UND. I like his feet on the block. Erikson is a tough matchup with great footwork, a soft touch, and an advanced skill set for someone 6’10.
Drew Kempel Drew Kempel 6'4" | PG Bismarck Century | 2025 State ND (2025) |6’2 G| ND Phenom/Bismarck Century
He is a strong, physical, play-making guard. Kempel is a mature guard for his age. Drew is great off the bounce. His first step is dangerous and super effective. Kempel gets two feet in the paint and he makes positive plays for his team. I saw him play this fall, I am excited to see how he looks on Sunday. Drew has basketball running through his veins and I expect him to have a wonderful showing this weekend in Kansas City.
Randy Rosenquist Randy Rosenquist 6'0" | PG Dakota Valley | 2023 State SD (2023) |5’11 PG| Pentagon Schoolers Maschino/Dakota Valley
He helped lead the Panthers to a State Championship and a perfect 26-0 record. He was also named a 1st Team All-State player. Randy is a true point guard that dictates the pace of the game on offense and defense. Rosenquist is a pick-pocket on defense and a high assist man on offense. He also does his fair share of scoring. Rosenquist is a team player and a gamer. Make sure you check this PG out in KC!
Brayden Pankonen Brayden Pankonen 5'11" | PG Dell Rapids | 2023 State SD (2023) |5’11 SG| Pentagon Schoolers Maschino/Dell Rapids
He might be one of the best pure shooters in the Midwest, look for Pankonen to prove it on the big stage this weekend. Brayden was an All-State player this season in South Dakota. He is a fierce defender with quick feet and hands. Pankonen gets his hands on a ton of passes and balls. He is super quick and his anticipation is excellent. On offense, Brayden is a 3-pt sniper and a creator. He is great in transition and electric in the open court.
Ethan Determan Ethan Determan 6'2" | SG Harrisburg | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’2 SG| Pentagon Schoolers Maschino/Harrisburg
He is a pure scorer who does not need volume shots to be productive. Determan does not need to dominate the ball to score buckets. Ethan had a huge season scoring the rock for the Tigers in school ball. Determan averaged 19 ppg in South Dakota’s top class and he helped lead Harrisburg to the State Tournament. Check out these impressive stats: 51.3 FG%, 43.6 3FG%, and 81.9 FT%. This kid is a special talent!
Reis Kirschenman Reis Kirschenman 6'5" | C Tea Area | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’5 C| Pentagon Schoolers Walker/Tea Area
This tough kid is a bear on the boards! Reis is one of the best rebounders in South Dakota. His high motor, rebounding, and agility make him a standout player. Kirschenman moves his feet well, this allows him to guard on the perimeter and effectively handle pick-n-roll situations. In the paint, Reis plays much bigger than his 6’5 measurables.
Carson Yale Carson Yale 6'9" | PF Des Lacs Burlington | 2023 State ND (2023) |6’9 F| ND Phenom/Des Lacs Burlington
He had a very nice weekend in Indy after missing all of the high school season. Expect Yale to build off that, he is primed for a big weekend at Prep Hoops Live. Carson has the size, skill, and athleticism to make coaches drool. He checks all the boxes. I am expecting Yale to stand out this weekend. I will see Phenom play Saturday and I expect them to represent ND well!
Gavin Muirhead Gavin Muirhead 6'7" | PF O'gorman | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’7 PF| Pentagon Schoolers Walker/O’Gorman
He made some splashy plays this winter in school ball and I expect more of that in AAU hoops. Gavin is very long, athletic, and he plays with a high motor. He has a very long wingspan. Muirhead is a shot-blocker and an effective rim protector. College coaches will like his length, playmaking ability, and his athletic finishes. Muirhead is an above-the-rim finisher that slams, whams, flushes, and puts down lobs passes with style.
Mandalla Mohamed Mandalla Mohamed 6'2" | SG Sioux Falls Washington | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’2 SG| Pentagon Schoolers Walker/Sioux Falls Washington
This kid knows what it’s like to play in big games. I am expecting him to come out early on Friday night and shine. Mohamed has a “never-back-down” type of attitude. He is an impressive athlete that will fit in with the other stars from across the county at this event. Mandalla is a very hard worker that will do the little things to help his squad. He is a very unselfish player that will make the extra pass and thread the needle to set up a teammate for a good look.
Karson Ouse Karson Ouse 6'8" | SF Kindred | 2025 State #283 Nation ND (2025) |6’5 SF| ND Phenom/Kindred
He has the perfect combination of length, athleticism, and skill set. It will not be long until college coaches are after Ouse. He played 12-15 minutes of varsity each night in HS ball. Karson helped the Vikings win the Region 1 Championship and get to the State Championship game. Ouse made great strides on both ends of the floor this season. His defense has really improved and he gives opponents fits with his length and athleticism. He is truly a star on the rise.
