Check out my scouting reports on the players voted to the PrepHoops 3A State Championship First Team. Dallas Madison beat San Antonio Cole in the 3A Championship game with a final score of 53-51. Dallas Madison knocked off Wichita Falls City View 69-62 in the Semi-Finals. San Antonio Cole beat Hitchcock in the Semi-Finals with a final score of 53-49.

Rodney Geter 2022 6’6 Dallas Madison High School

Rodney is an athletic wing who dominates his opponents in the paint, especially on the glass. His relentlessness on the glass gave his team a plethora of extra opportunities and easy second chance points through his aggressiveness. He fights hard in the paint and in the post, and always boxes out the nearest man to him. He was consistently fighting for positioning in the low post, and working to move his opponent out of his way to clear driving lanes for his teammates. He is also good in the dunkers spot, he always manages to seal off his opponent at the right time to be an open receiver of a pass for his guards as they attack the rim.

Geter displayed his intense defense on the perimeter and in the paint, coming up with blocks and locking down quicker guards on the perimeter. His length harasses ball handlers and forces them to pick up their dribble 30 feet from the rim and make a bad decision. He is a good screener who rolls hard to the rim and destroys smaller opponents who switch onto him. He is a consistent rim runner and when he gets a full head of steam not many opponents want to get in his way.

[player_tooltip player_id="795729" first="Trey" last="Blackmore"] 2022 6’3 San Antonio Cole High School

Trey is a high level point guard who can do it all on the offensive end of the floor. Whether he is shooting from beyond the arc, putting pressure on the defense by attacking the rim and scoring in the paint, or creating open looks for his shooters on the outside, Blackmore always seems to be successful. His ability to knock down shots around the arc and in the midrange off the dribble allows his teammates to play off of him and flash to the rim or screen him open.He is a knock down shooter from the outside, especially when he gets a chance to set his feet. When his team needs a bucket down the stretch, the ball always seemed to find his hands and he was calm and confident as he got to his spots on the floor.

What I was most impressed with was his natural ability to create space with a live dribble. His defender’s always seemed to be on their heels when guarding him, and he has lightning quick crossovers to separate himself enough to get his shot off. He was confident and able to play through full court pressure and traps. Blackmore is committed to Cal State Fullerton and I am excited to watch him produce at the next level.

Pierre Hunter 2022 6’1 Dallas Madison High School

Pierre is an athletic freak at the combo guard position and he thrives at finishing at the rim and creating looks for his teammates. His bounce and ability to get to the rim makes him a dynamic offensive weapon. He has a tight handle and an ability to create space whenever he needs it. He is great at using his crossover to create space, as well as using his opponent’s momentum against them as they try to pressure him in the full court.

Hunter has explosive leaping ability which allows him to hammer emphatic dunks on his opponents, he had one of the most impressive plays of the whole tournament with his tip dunk that sucked the air out of the gym during the semi-finals against Wichita Falls City View. He is not just a power dunker however, he displayed a crafty ability to change his shot angle and finish with either hand. He is great at using the up and under to finish around bigger defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id="1149319" first="Silas" last="Livingston"] 2022 5’11 San Antonio Cole High School

Silas is an aggressive on ball defender who wreaks havoc on the defensive side of the ball. His ability to create turnovers allowed his team to run on the break, and he made life difficult for some high level ball handlers. His aggressiveness is evident on both ends of the floor as he is relentless in attacking the basket and making his presence known on the defensive end of the floor. He has active hands and plays bigger than what his size says on paper.

He creates a lot of confusion for the defense with his ability to move off the ball, his constant motion wears out his defender and forces the defense to keep an eye on him at all times. However, he is not just an off the ball player he can hurt you off the dribble with his ability to create space and get to the rim. He has a great touch on his floater that he loves to get off in the paint and consistently finishes at the rim. At times he is a bit out of control when he is getting downhill, I would like to see him work on his ability to be more patient in the half court and working to find the best look possible.

Christopher Whitten 2022 6’3 Wichita Falls City View High School

Christopher is a high level scorer who seemingly creates all of the looks for City View with his ability to get to the rack and also find his teammates. He faced a double team most of the time and was even a recipient of a dirty shot on the fast break. Despite this, he used his speed and ability to turn the corner and get to the rim. He was a strong distributor who was able to get into the lane and whip a cross court pass to find his open shooter on the back side. He showed an ability to knock down shots beyond the arc off the dribble. He is a strong finisher at the rim who is good at using his length to avoid contact and deflections by changing his shot angle. He is a strong on ball defender as well who thrives at turning defense into offense. His ability to flip the court and push the break allowed
