As we do after each tournament, our staff of writers and Regional Scouts from the Grit Region have put our heads together and compared notes to compile our All-Tournament teams. This task was a little bit harder for Prep Hoops Live than other events because the venues were so spread out. Between Kansas City, Overland Park, and the surrounding area, all the way out to Lawrence, Kansas, it was hard to truly cover every single game. However, we always find a way! Here are our Prep Hoops Live Grit Region 17u All-Tournament Teams.
First Team
Jake Fiegen Jake Fiegen 6'3" | SG New Trier | 2023 State IL (New Trier H.S. 2023/Full Package 2023 Black): It was another great weekend for the Full Package Black sharpshooter. Fiegen averaged 20 points per game while shooting 18-41 from beyond the arc. His team also went 4-0. At this point it feels like you can just pencil in the 6’3″ guard for First Team All-Tournament for everyone Prep Hoops Circuit event.
A.J. Lux A.J. Lux 6'3" | SG Crown Point | 2023 State IN (Crown Point H.S. 2023/Team GRIII 2023 Elite): The impressive shooting performances continue to pile up for Lux. On Friday evening, the 6’5″ guard scored 20 points including six three-pointers as Team GRIII beat Chicago Lockdown. He then had a 7-9 three-point game on Saturday evening. Division I coaches continue to follow Lux and should be pulling the trigger on some offers soon.
Mason Jones Mason Jones 6'7" | PF Valparaiso | 2023 State IN (Valparaiso H.S. 2023/Team GRIII 2023 Elite): Jones came out of the gate hot at Prep Hoops Live scoring 22 points on Friday night. He would later turn in a 21-point, 16-rebound performance on Saturday. The 6’7″ versatile forward was at his best over the weekend showing his wide array of offensive skills.
Nikola Abusara Nikola Abusara 6'5" | SF Benet | 2023 State IL (Benet Academy 2023/Full Package 2023 Black): This 6’4″ guard played at a high level all weekend long as Full Package 2023 went 4-0. His versatility and length on the wing was on display each game. Abusara is very good off of the dribble, has the size to get up and finish at the rim, and defends multiple positions well.
Sonny Williams Sonny Williams 6'1" | PG International Sports Academy | 2023 OH (Notre Dame College Prep 2023/Hoops 4 Health): Hoops 4 Health has a number of nice 2023 prospects, but it was Williams who starred over the weekend at Prep Hoops Live. The stronger guard can score it in a variety of ways with pull-ups off the dribble, drives to the rim, and showed off a smooth stroke from beyond the arc. Led his team with 16 points in a loss to Pentagon Schoolers that I watched.
Second Team
Jack Ambrose Jack Ambrose 6'6" | SF Batavia | 2023 State IL (Batavia H.S. 2023/M14 Hoops 2023-1 National): A tall, lanky guard out of Batavia, the 6’6″ Ambrose put up a couple of big scoring performances over the weekend for M14 Hoops. His ability to shoot the basketball at his size makes him a tough cover on the wings for opposing defenses.
Jalen Briscoe (Franklin Simpson H.S. 2023/Tennessee Edge 2023): Tennessee Edge had a great weekend going 3-1 out in Kansas City and a big part of that was the strong play of this 6’4″ forward. Briscoe is physical, plays very hard, and is mobile on both ends of the floor. Crashed the glass hard and scored around the basket consistently.
Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN (Anderson H.S. 2023/EG10 2023): Carson simply scores the basketball at a really high level. The 6’2″ guard can shoot it from beyond the arc, create his own shot off the bounce, and finishes well around the basket. Has a great handle and doesn’t get sped up.
Bryce Coleman Bryce Coleman 6'6" | SF Proviso East | 2023 State IL (Notre Dame College Prep 2023/IBA Illinois Stars 2023 Johnson): This physical wing is really hard to guard when he gets going downhill to the rim. Coleman also showed his versatility knocking down several jumpers over the weekend as well. Finished with 22 points in a tough loss to North Dakota Phenom.
Leirre Collier Leirre Collier 6'3" | PG Bloom Township | 2023 IL (Marist H.S. 2023/Chicago Lockdown 2023): Collier was the most consistent force for Chicago Lockdown this weekend. The 6’2″ playmaker can really shoot it from beyond the arc and was dishing out assists as well.
Third Team
Tre Davis Tre Davis 6'0" | SG Houston | 2024 State TN (Marian Catholic H.S. 2023/IBA Illinois Stars 2023 Johnson)
Armani Hunter Armani Hunter 5'10" | PG Oswego | 2023 IL (Oswego H.S. 2023/M14 Hoops 2023-1 National)
Nicholas Niego (Brother Rice H.S. 2023/Chicago Lockdown 2023)
Mark Nikolich-Wilson Mark Nikolich-Wilson 6'7" | C Rolling Meadows | 2023 State IL (Rolling Meadows H.S. 2023/Full Package 2023 Black)
Xavier Sulaiman Xavier Sulaiman 6'3" | SG Oak Lawn | 2023 State IL (Marist H.S. 2023/Hoops 4 Health 2023)
