A top 10 prospect in Wisconsin’s 2023 class, Birkholz is receiving interest at the Division 1 and Division 2 levels. A high-flying slashing guard, Birkholz is one of the best athletes in the state. An improving jump shooter and all-around prospect, Birkholz is slowly developing into a prototypical shooting guard who can score from all three levels, impact a game defensively, and make game-changing, athletic plays with his high motor.
Sam Coulthard Sam Coulthard 6'2" | SG Neenah | 2023 State WI – 2023 – G – Wisconsin Crusaders Elite
A prospect that’s flying under the radar right now, expect Coulthard to make some noise for Neenah next season as a senior now that their roster clears out. A 6-foot-2 combo guard with playmaking skills, Coulthard is a flashy a prospect with takeover ability on the offensive end.
Caleb Glaser Caleb Glaser 6'6" | SF Appleton East | 2023 State WI – 2023 – PF – Wisconsin Crusaders
Like Glaser’s trajectory a lot and think he’s a solid Division 2 prospect. Arguably the fastest rising junior in the state right now, Glaser has played his way into the top 20 of the rankings after an impressive season with Appleton East. The 6-foot-6 forward can go get you easy buckets on the block and has some of the best footwork in the state. He continues to expand his game away from the hoop as well and shows flashes of being a mismatch nightmare. Glaser is also one of the better shot blockers in this class, timing things at the rim extremely well without fouling.
Emmett Lawton Emmett Lawton 6'2" | SG Notre Dame Academy | 2023 State WI – 2023 – SG – Team 1848
Saw Lawton start to catch fire last summer and it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down. The 6-foot-3 sniper is a hand-down, man-down shooter that can rip the nets. Using a very high release, Lawton doesn’t need much space to get a shot off. He’s comfortable being uncomfortable, able to connect from deep even when defenders are right in his shorts.
A.J. Lieuwen A.J. Lieuwen 6'0" | CG Bay Port | 2023 State WI – 2023 – G – Team 1848
A prospect that should see some D2 attention this spring/summer, Lieuwen is a killer combo guard. Able to play on and off the ball, Lieuwen has the handles to break down defenders off the bounce and a sweet pull-up game from mid and 3-point range. You can also run him off screens and allow him to hunt shots. Lieuwen’s blow-by ability forces defenders to pick their poison. At worse, think Lieuwen is a prospect that WIAC programs are lining up for come this winter.
Will Starks Will Starks 6'4" | SF Kenosha Tremper | 2023 State WI – 2023 – SF – World Hoops Elite
High motor slasher that can finish through contact. Like Starks’ ability to rip and go from the perimeter or the high post. He’s a sneaky good offensive rebounder as well that knows how to high point the basketball and be a junkyard dog under the rim.
Vincent Vandervest Vincent Vandervest 6'4" | SF Bay Port | 2023 State WI – 2023 – SF – Team 1848
This kid is a plus athlete that catches a lot of people by surprise with how he plays above the rim at 6-foot-4. Vandervest plays a lot bigger than his size, able to really work in traffic around the hoop. Think he’s gotten a lot better in transition as well as somebody who runs the floor hard and beats people down to the other end. Some really good defensive versatility here as well. Have seen Vandervest accept the challenge of defending the other team’s top player at a variety of different positions.
Jamisen Young Jamisen Young 6'0" | PG Sunrise Christian Academy | 2023 KS – 2023 – PG – World Hoops Elite
A smooth guard that can go on the ball, Young is one of the better ball handlers in the state. When he’s able to mix in shot making off the dribble, Young can be a defender’s nightmare. The 6-foot guard utilizes head fakes, change of speed/direction just about as well as any guard in this class and keeps his opponent guessing each time he comes up the floor.
