Continue ReadingThe NY2LA Grassroots Showcase took over the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville for the second live recruiting period of the spring. This event caught national buzz as social media sensation Mikey Williams, a 5-star point guard out of North Carolina, played with LaMelo Ball’s 1of1 team. There were reports of thousands of people attending his games over the weekend.
As for Indiana-based prospects, a number of teams from the Hoosier state made the quick trip down south across the river for this event. Here is a look back at some of the names that caught the most buzz for their strong play at the Grassroots Showcase.
Garwey Dual Garwey Dual 6'5" | PG Carmel | 2023 #113 Nation CA-S (Carmel H.S. 2023/George Hill All Indy 2023): There aren’t many names in the entire Midwest, let alone the state of Indiana, as hot as Dual’s right now. The versatile 6’5″ two-way wing has blown up this spring and now holds DI offers from IUPUI, UAB, Purdue Fort Wayne, and Southern Indiana. Dual was named defensive MVP at the Grassroots Showcase.
Zeke Kirby (Warren Central H.S. 2025/Indy EBC 2025): I saw Kirby play a couple of spot minutes as a freshman at Warren Central, but admittedly do not have much information on him at all. That will need to change quickly as his name was one I heard a lot about from Louisville. The shifty point guard scored 30 points in a win for Indy EBC 2025 and had at least one other big scoring performance as well as his team went 4-0. Another name to watch in Indiana’s strong 2025 class.
Jackson Price Jackson Price 6'2" | SG Mishawaka Marian | 2023 State IN (Mishawaka Marian H.S. 2023/5Star 2023): This sharp-shooter continues to have a breakout spring. Price led 5Star 2023 to a 4-0 record at the Grassroots Showcase while putting up some big time scoring numbers. The 6’2″ guard had games of 17, 21, and 29 points over the weekend.
Azavier Robinson Azavier Robinson 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2025 State #88 Nation IN (Lawrence North H.S. 2025/George Hill All Indy 2024): Playing up an age group with the 16u George Hill squad, Robinson has still starred in the month of April. The athletic 6’2″ guard had another big weekend at the Grassroots Showcase. He is a dynamic playmaker with explosiveness at the end of his drives. Already holding an offer from IUPUI, this 2025 prospect could be the next one in his class to add to his offer list.
Kamari Slaughter Kamari Slaughter 6'2" | SG Cathedral | 2023 State IN (Portage H.S. 2023/94 Feet Elite 2023): The first two live periods have been very good to Portage’s 6’2″ playmaker. Slaughter is a physical backcourt presence that is one of the best pure rim-attackers in the state. When the next live periods roll around you can expect college coaches to really be focusing on this prospect for 94 Feet Elite. Had a 27 point performance where he knocked down four three-pointers as well.
Tucker Tornatta (Evansville Memorial H.S. 2024/Kyle Guy Elite White 2024): Tornatta continues to make a name for himself after another strong weekend at the Grassroots Showcase. The 6’7″ forward led his team to a perfect 4-0 weekend including a 15-point, 10-rebound performance in a close win over the Pentagon Schoolers. Tornatta is averaging a double-double this spring and has 41 offensive rebounds in eight games.
Jaymen Townsend Jaymen Townsend 6'6" | SF Marion | 2025 State #248 Nation IN (Marion H.S. 2025/George Hill All Indy 2025): A 6’5″ wing out of Marion, Townsend is a Top 10 prospect in Indiana’s Class of 2025. He is strong, a great driver from the perimeter, and rebounds at a high level on both ends of the floor. Townsend is one of the primary reasons George Hill All Indy 2025 went 4-0 down in Louisville.
Nitareon Tuggle Nitareon Tuggle 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2024 IN (NorthWood H.S. 2024/Kyle Guy Elite Black 2024): There aren’t many prospects that have the physical gifts and tools of this guard from NorthWood. Tuggle is a great perimeter defender and can get to the basket off of the dribble. He had a great weekend averaging 13.2 points and 5 rebounds per game as Kyle Guy Elite Black went 3-1 on the weekend.
