Every team has the goal at the beginning of the season to win the state tournament, and only 1 team from each division will accomplish that goal. Here is part 1 of MIAA State tournament standouts.
Michael Loughnane Michael Loughnane 6'3" | SG Phillips Exeter | 2023 State NLG , BC High, Class 2022, Position Combo Guard
The BC High Eagles finished off their undefeated season with a state Championship. Senior Captain Michael Loughnane Michael Loughnane 6'3" | SG Phillips Exeter | 2023 State NLG was a big part in the teams run. Mike had a very strong run in the tournament. Mike averaged 26 points per game, and in the teams closest game of the season, the semi final game against Springfield Central, Mike showed up when they needed him most. He had 32 points and lead his team to the comeback win. Mike is a sure college prospect, who has still undecided, but has division 1 offers. Mike is a high level playmaker, and was one of the top players in the state all season long. He is a dominate scorer, who can play off the ball, and on the ball. He gets to his spots very quickly, and can shoot, and also attack the rim. Mike will fit very well into what ever college he decides to go to.
Noah Beaudet Noah Beaudet 6'0" | SG Norwood | 2023 State NLG , Norwood, Class 2023, Position G
Noah Help lead his team to the division 2 state tournament finals. He showed poise in big moments, as he made big stops, and hit big shots, to his team win. Noah Averaged over 20 points a game in the tournament, including a 35 point performance against Fitchburg. Noah is a playmaker. He can Play above the rim, and play out on the wing. Noah is only a Junior, and a player to watch in his senior season.
Xavier MacKenzie, Central Catholic, Position G, Class 2022
Xavier was one of the top scorers in the tournament. He had a game with 35 points, and game with over 20 points against the eventual State Champions BC High. Xavier is a very skilled guard. He has a quick first step off the dribble, and finishes well at the rim. He also can shoot well from the outside. His combination of skill, and athletic ability made him tough to match up with.
Will Davis, Newton North, Position C, HT 6’8, Class 2023
Newton North had a great run in the state tournament, making it to the Division 1 State finals. The big man duo of 6-8 Will Davis, and 6-7 Florian Kuechen, were a big part. Will was often tasked with guarding the other teams biggest players. Will had big games against Needham with 17 points, and against Andover with 15 points, and 7 rebounds. Will is an efficient scorer. Many teams don’t have the size to Matchup with Will. Will is also a very good passer from the post. Will also showed in the tournament the skills to knock down free throws consistently, and also hit shots from the outside. Will is a strong built, who can play above the rim, and also is a paint protector. I expect Will to continue his strong play during his senior season.
Jahmari Hamilton-Brown, Malden Catholic, Position F, Class 2023
Malden Catholic had a very high level team, and a dominate run in the State tournament, leading to their division 2 state Championship. Jahmari was one of the key contributors. The first thing you notice is how athletic he is. He can play above the rim, and is also a slasher from the wing. With so many options on the Malden catholic team, he did a good job also distributing the ball. Jahmari is a high level player, who has division 1 college level potential.
