(Madrid)
Stats: 19.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.0 steals, 46.8 FG%, 41.3 3P%, 90.3 FT%
The leading freshmen scorer in the state, Severson burst onto the scene by dropping 28 points in the Tigers’ first game of the season and he didn’t slow down the rest of the way. A versatile 6-3 guard who can both score and make plays for others, he put together one of the most productive freshmen seasons we’ve seen and should continue to be one of the state’s elite scoring threats throughout the course of his high school career.

Stats: 10.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 53.7 FG%, 43.5 3P%
Kern figures to be one of the most intriguing players in the 2025 class throughout his four years at Linn-Mar. A long and lean 6-7 forward, he showed the ability to protect the rim and stretch the floor, both qualities that college coaches are looking for in a modern “big man”. As he continues to develop physically and add strength to his frame, he could become one of the more dominant big men in the state with his touch around the rim and ability to shoot from deep.

(Iowa City West)
Stats: 9.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.0 blocks, 44.2 FG%, 35.0 3P%, 78.8 FT%
The youngest McCaffery son had a very productive first year for the Trojans, showing his ability to score inside and out and protect the rim. He faded a bit as the season wore on, but that is to be expected with freshmen, especially those playing and contributing at the 4A level. He’s 6-8, has a huge wingspan, and can really shoot the ball. He’ll be in contention for the #1 spot in the 2025 rankings when they are put together.

(MFL-Mar-Mac)
Stats: 18.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.6 steals, 53.6 FG%, 45.5 3P%, 86.0 FT%
Another freshman who had a huge scoring season, Driscoll, like Severson, burst onto the high school scene by scoring 33 in his varsity debut. He’s a dynamic three-level scorer who can break down a defense and get to the bucket, bury 3-pointers at a high clip, or get others involved.

IA
. (Valley)
Stats: 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 41.2 FG%, 79.8 FT%
The son of former Iowa State standout guard Curtis Stinson, Junior was a major contributor on both ends of the floor for a Valley team that was playing as well as any team in the state heading into the postseason. He’s a big, physical guard with an understanding of the game well beyond his years, and he will be battling with McCaffery and another player for the top spot in the 2025 rankings when they come out. He can get to the bucket and finish through contact, is an excellent ball-handler and decision-maker, and already a plus defender.
SECOND TEAM
Hakael Powell (Prince of Peace)
Stats: 13.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.7 steals
Powell led the Irish in scoring and was second on the team in assists and steals. He can get to the rim for finishes and showed that he can score in bunches.
Caleb Haack (Iowa Valley)
Stats: 11.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 2.0 blocks, 53.7 FG%, 75.6 FT%
A 6-4 forward who was hyper-efficient as a freshman, Haack showed the ability to finish around the rim, control the glass on both ends of the floor, protect the rim, and his strong free-throw percentage is encouraging as he could be adding some more range to his game down the line.

Meyer is a 6-4 forward who finished second on the Lions in scoring and led the team in rebounding. He finishes effectively around the rim with either hand and displayed a little bit of range during his freshman season.

(Muscatine)
Stats: 9.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.3 blocks
The younger brother of former Iowa standout Joe Wieskamp, Luke showed some flashes of brilliance in his first varsity season, ranking second on the team in scoring and third in rebounding. A lanky 6-5 wing who can score inside and out, he should become one of the state’s top players in the next few seasons as he continues to develop and fill out.
Colby Eskildsen (Northwood-Kensett)
Stats: 13.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.5 steals, 44.4 FG%, 71.4 FT%
Three of the Vikings’ top four scorers this season were freshmen, and Eskildsen is the face of the youth movement. He led the team in scoring and assists, showed the ability to score from all three levels, and he can make an impact on the defensive end, averaging 1.5 steals a game.
THIRD TEAM
Gabe Funk (Lenox)
Stats: 13.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.4 steals, 46.3 FG%, 70.2 FT%
