The Uncommon Prospect camps hosted by Coach Vanlandingham have given prospects a feel of what a college workout is like while trying to showcase their skills to possible suitors. This past Sunday in East Texas at LeTourneau College was no different. Prospects from the Ark-La-Tex worked hard for four hours to showcase their talent trying to achieve their goal of playing on the next level. There were a large number of guards who brought an assortment of skills to the camp. In this look back, I will review some of the guards, forwards, and wings who had a great day in East Texas.
Tyler Jones (Riverdale Academy | 2022)
Jones had another good performance during the Uncommon East Texas event. His ability to pass was magnified during the course of the day and especially during the top prospect game. He is really good at making pinpoint passes to post and wings where they can just catch and shoot or catch and finish. Jones was really good at penetrating and finding cutters for layups as well. He is getting better every time I see him.

Reams did not make the top prospect game at the end of the day. However, he has taken input and used it to improve his game. On this day, he was much better at attacking the rim and did not let bumps and hits knock him off balance. Reams has extended his range and was able to string multiple three point shots together. His willingness to improve in these areas may just find him a home sooner than later this summer.
Elijah Johnson (Lufkin | 2022)
Johnson knows how to get where he wants on the basketball floor and showed it numerous times during the day at LeTourneau. His use of the handle to get to his spots on the floor is practically flawless. Elijah was very good at dribbling to the elbows or attacking from the baseline and pulling up for his jumper. He also used his speed to his advantage when it came to finding teammates. Johnson is an underrated point who can definitely play.

Walker had his way in the post all day in Marshall. During one-on-one drills against other big men, Walker was very good at sealing his man and giving coaches and guards a big target to pass to. When the camp turned into 4-on-4 and top prospect game play, he was impossible to keep off of the boards. His ability to score in the post and his rebounding work on both ends makes him a prospect to keep an eye on.
Kris Jones (Port Aransas | 2023)
Jones was one of those players that gives defenders the impression that he is gonna run off screens and knock down jumpers. Then, when someone guards him, he blows past them with his first step. Both parts of the initial sentence are accurate. He moves well off screens and motion movement which allows him to drain jumpers. Jones can blow by defenders as well and avoids his shot being blocked with the use of the floater. His game is sneaky good and should help find him a home after next season.
Jadyn Smith (Victoria West | 2022)
Smith is a 6’4" wing who makes plays on the basketball floor. He can be flashy and had a couple of moments where he made dribble moves that looked spectacular and gained separation for his shot at the same time. He can attack the rim, rebound, and shoot the outside jumper. Smith can score at all three levels and he can shrug off contact going to the cup. He can flat out get it done on the floor.
Other top prospects from the Uncommon East Texas Camp
Cort Reid (LaPoyner | 2025)
Jaden Young (Jacksonville College)
Evan Almeida (LaPoyner | 2023)
Bryson Hawkins (Whitehouse | 2023)
Terrell Palmer (CC King | 2022)
Tyler Moore (Harding transfer)
