Next weekend is the first live recruiting period of the spring, but a lot of teams got things started this weekend as a sort of tune up for The Stage in Indianapolis. On Saturday we outlined some top performers in both the morning and evening sessions so go back and check those out if you haven’t seen them already. Now, let’s dive on in and highlight some of the best individual performances from Sunday’s action at the Prep Hoops Grit Region Kick-Off.
Shaun Arnold Shaun Arnold 6'5" | PF Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Ben Davis H.S. 2023): Arnold is your prototypical do-it-all forward. He is 6’5″ with a long, athletic frame and does all of the dirty work that helps his team win. He rebounds very well on both ends of the floor, is a versatile defender capable of guarding any position, and finishes well inside with both hands. Definitely one for college coaches to look at this spring and summer for EG10.
Walter Campbell Walter Campbell 6'6" | PF Western Hills | 2023 State KY (Western Hills H.S. 2023): It was a very productive weekend for the Griffin Elite wing. Campbell is very strong and has no trouble absorbing contact on his way to the basket. Very good two-way guard that can slide up or down in terms of position depending on your needs.
Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN (Anderson H.S. 2023): The 8:00 a.m. game on Sunday came out with a bang as this 6’2″ guard went off for 45 points to start the day. Carson is a solidly built left-hander that is a true three-level scorer. He has a nice, quick release from deep and gets to the basket off the bounce seemingly whenever he wants. Should have a huge Grit Region Circuit with EG10.
Rheyce Deboard (Boyd County H.S. 2023): His Kentucky Vision Elite team came up just short against JH1 IndyElite on Sunday morning, but Deboard was excellent showing off a sweet shooting stroke. He can fill it up from beyond the arc in a hurry and will be a shooter to watch out of Kentucky throughout the spring and summer.
Kamari Jones Kamari Jones 6'4" | SG Lawrence Centra (IN) / Hilcrest Prep (AZ) | 2023 IN (Lawrence Central H.S. 2023): Jones had a great weekend and is poised to be one of the biggest stock-risers in the state of Indiana this spring. He is a 6’3″ wing with excellent shooting ability. Coaches at all levels will want to see him next weekend in Indianapolis.
Michael Palmer Jr. (East H.S. 2025): One of the better underclassman that I saw on Sunday, Palmer Jr. is a 6’6″ forward with serious length. He gets vertical at the rim and blocked several shots. Good rebounder and finished putback attempts consistently. High-upside prospect..
Xavier Sulaiman Xavier Sulaiman 6'3" | SG Oak Lawn | 2023 State IL (Marist H.S. 2023): If there was a more explosive guard at the Grit Region Kick-Off I’m not sure that I saw him. Sulaiman had a couple of big time dunks in traffic, but also showed off his skill level on Sunday. He is a playmaking guard that can create for himself off the dribble. Will garner a lot of college attention in the coming months.
Kade Unseld Kade Unseld 6'5" | SF Warren Central | 2024 State #252 Nation KY (Warren Central H.S. 2024): Playing with the Griffin Elite 2024 team, Unseld is a strong wing that stands about 6’4″-6’5.” He flashed some great athleticism Sunday morning making some good plays in transition and making shots in the half court. The Warren Central (KY) product is one to follow in the 2024 class.
