Continue ReadingThe GMC had several solid teams this past winter. We featured South River earlier in the week and will return tomorrow with another team-specific feature on power players Saint Thomas Aquinas. Today we have decided to spread around the county to feature several 2023s who colleges should be keeping close tabs on this summer and into next season.
Brandon Dean Brandon Dean 5'10" | PG South Plainfield | 2024 NLG | 5’11” | G | South Plainfield
Dean exploded as a star for a very talented South Plainfield team this past winter. He scored over 600 points as South Plainfield registered one of its best seasons ever at 23-6. He’s a solid ball handler, shoots well from beyond the arc and can create space to get himself looks. His first step is lightning quick. His best performances of his remarkable junior year were against Spotswood(37), Pingry(36), St Joes(24) and Colonia(24). With almost 900 points going into his senior year, he’s got a punchers chance to break the SPHS scoring record of 1,436, held by Marquis Jones(2005)—If 2020-2021 was a full season, he probably would be close to the record by now with an eye of breaking it early in his senior year. He plays AAU for the NJ Panthers and college coaches should be lighting up the switchboard at SPHS to contact him.
Joshua Ingram Joshua Ingram 6'4" | SG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2023 State NJ | 6’3” | G | Saint Joseph’s of Metuchen
Ingram is a smooth guard who has good moves attacking the basket. He can also step back and hit the long ball. He’s also good at getting out on fast breaks and has spring in his step to get above the rim. Offensively, he’s a well rounded player. Tough defender who’s active with his hands to create turnovers. He was in double digits against everyone except national power Saint Benedict’s. His top performances were against Monroe(22), Hudson Catholic(18), Linden(17), Ramapo(16) and St. Thomas Aquinas(16). Plays AAU for NJ Panthers. Ingram should receive interest from a wide variety of schools at multiple levels with a strong AAU circuit and senior year, giving himself plenty of options for college. His skillset is there, a college weight program will turn him into a good player at that level.
Noah Taylor Noah Taylor 6'5" | PF Colonia | 2023 State NJ | 6’5” | F | Colonia
Taylor is very athletic and active on the glass at both ends of the floor. He’s a strong post player with good moves around the rim. His top performance of the season was a 20-20 outing in a win over Sayreville. He also had 12&10 vs St Thomas Aquinas. Taylor should receive interest from a variety of D3 programs in the coming year after the summer run with the NJ Panthers.
Tareak Williams | 5’11” | G | South Plainfield
Williams attacks the basket well and is also a good facilitator at the top of the key for South Plainfield. He can create his own shot outside the arc and also hits the boards on defense. His best outings as a junior were against Bridgewater and Spotswood(16 in both) and he also had a good game vs talented Saint Joe’s of Metuchen(14). Williams college trajectory will be heavily influenced by his senior season. He and Dean, along with classmate Michael Mendez(5’10” guard who had several nice games, including 19 vs West Morris and 15 vs Bridgewater) form one of the best returning units at a GMC public school.
