Continue ReadingFor the first live recruiting period of the spring, Indianapolis was the hub of the national basketball scene. The Nike EYBL Circuit took their talents south to Orlando, but the other two shoe company circuits, 3SSB sponsored by Adidas and Under Armour’s UAA Circuit came to the Indianapolis area. Additionally, the top two non-shoe company grassroots circuits run by Prep Hoops and NY2LA also were right here in our capital city. With such a busy weekend it has brought us a TON of coverage to push out to an ever-growing audience of basketball fans. Let’s take a look back at the weekend and highlight some prospects that saw their stock rise in the eyes of college coaches and scouts alike.
DaJohn Craig DaJohn Craig 6'1" | PG Lawrence Central | 2023 State IN (Lawrence Central H.S. 2023/Kyle Guy Elite Black 2023): This 6’0″ guard showed off his explosiveness over at the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza. Craig can create his own shot off of the dribble and showed his ability to get to the rim against top level competition.
Rasauun Johnson Rasauun Johnson 6'2" | SG Mishawaka | 2024 State IN (Mishawaka H.S. 2024/5Star 2024): One of the first things that stood out with Johnson was his size. At 6’2″ with a strong, athletic frame he simply was bigger than I thought. Very talented wing that will have a breakout spring and summer on the Adidas Gold Gauntlet.
Grant Leeper Grant Leeper 6'7" | C Homestead | 2023 State IN (Homestead H.S. 2023/Indy Heat Red 2023): I’ve been high on the younger Leeper brother for awhile now. He has excellent size at 6’7″ with good strength and mobility. Leeper showcases good hands around the basket and finishes above the rim consistently. The Homestead product was up in Grand Rapids this past weekend at the Storm Classic.
Nate Matelic Nate Matelic 6'5" | SG Speedway | 2023 State IN (Speedway H.S. 2023/Indiana Central 2023): In a very deep class filled with talented small college prospects, this 6’5″ guard is one that has flown a little under-the-radar. That should change with some more strong showings on the Adidas Gold Gauntlet. Love his size and has proven shot-making ability.
Deion Miles Deion Miles 6'0" | PG Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State IN (Hamilton Southeastern H.S. 2024/Indiana Ice 2024): Miles is a long, athletic guard that gets downhill quickly off of the bounce. He is an excellent finisher with both hands around the basket with a variety of creative floaters and layups at the rim.
Marcus Northern Marcus Northern 6'2" | PG South Bend Washington | 2023 State IN (South Bend Washington H.S. 2023/Team GRIII 2023 Elite): Several teammates have gotten publicity after a great showing at The Stage by Team GRIII Elite. However, Northern is one that deserves more attention. A quick, athletic 6’1″ guard with nice two-way ability, Northern is one for small college coaches to watch this spring and summer.
Jaxon Pardon Jaxon Pardon 6'4" | SG Fort Wayne Carroll | 2024 State IN (Fort Wayne Carroll H.S. 2024/Ohio Buckets-Garcia 2024): Pardon has good size on the wing and is an excellent shooter from beyond the arc. The long, left-hander is a consistent playmaker that is poised for a breakout spring. College coaches are going to want to make a point to see this prospect play.
Ron Rutland III Ron Rutland III 6'1" | SG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN (Crispus Attucks H.S. 2024/D1 Indiana 2024): Rutland III is a fast-rising prospect in Indiana’s Class of 2024 that is turning some heads on the UA Rise Circuit. A smooth, gifted athlete that has a well-rounded offensive game.
Kamari Slaughter Kamari Slaughter 6'2" | SG Cathedral | 2023 State IN (Portage H.S. 2023/94 Feet Elite 2023): One of the best prospects up in northern Indiana, Slaughter had a big weekend at the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza. Slaughter is a super physical, athletic 6’2″ guard that can get to the rim off of the bounce whenever he wants.
Wyatt Zellers Wyatt Zellers 6'9" | PF Scottsburg | 2024 State IN (Scottsburg H.S. 2024/Indiana Elite Team Indiana 2024): It is hard to not be intrigued by the size and length of this 6’8″ prospect for Indiana Elite Team Indiana on the Adidas Gold Circuit. Zellers looks to have gotten stronger and continues to develop his skill set inside.
