Continue ReadingI already reviewed my top backcourt performers from Adidas 3SSB action this past weekend. Now I turn the attention to the top performing wings and bigs from Ohio. Between 15U, 16U, and 17U, I was able to see several top performing guys throughout the 2 day event. In this piece, the 6 guys below were the best of the best from what I watched.
Ethan Greenburg 6’5 SF (2025) Midwest Basketball Club (Centerville)
Greenburg is a player we don’t see often with Centerville due to the vast experience they returned and therefore makes AAU important for his exposure. Saturday’s action proved why he is an Elk and part of their culture and program. Greenburg moved without the ball and understood spacing on the offensive end. Vocal leader on the defensive end and an active defender with swift footwork and active hands. Greenburg has a chance to make an impact for the Elks this Winter but until then, watch him to be one of Midwest’s better defensive pieces.
Charlie Uhl 6’8 PF (2025) Midwest Basketball Club (Alter)
Uhl is another player not seen much on the Varsity scene due to the experience the Knights had last season. AAU gives Uhl a chance to utilize his wirey frame especially on the defensive end. He reminds me of his former teammate Jacob Conner Jacob Conner 6'7" | PF Alter | 2022 State OH as his long arms and defensive IQ allow him to get a hand on shots while defending post players on the block. Uhl will need to add some muscle to his frame and some quickness, but his fundamentals are sound and potential is there.
Gabe Clemmons 6’9 C (2025) Midwest Basketball Club (Fairfield)
Clemmons continues with the trend of guys at high level programs a year ago that did not see the floor much on Varsity due to the talent ahead of them. Clemmons brings great size at 6’9 and has a powerful frame to go with it making him a true Center. While teammate Charlie Uhl is more of a rim protector, Clemmons is simply a better on-ball defender in the post, using his size and strength to keep opposing bigs from getting open shots. His ability to stretch the floor offensively and occasionally knock down the perimeter shot makes him a matchup problem for bigger defenders not as quick.
Marlon Barnes Jr. Marlon Barnes Jr. 6'6" | SF Brush | 2023 State #161 Nation OH 6’6 SF (2023) Wildcat Select (Brush)
Barnes impressed for Wildcat Select with future coach Jeff Capel watching from the stands. The Pitt commit has an absolute dagger of a 3PT shot and impressed with his shot selection and shot making either off bounce or catch-and-shoot. His length on the perimeter and athleticism should allow him to be a solid contributor in the ACC. For now though, he gives Wildcat a consistent perimeter threat with their other slashing guards.
Raleigh Burgess Raleigh Burgess 6'10" | C Sycamore | 2024 State #130 Nation OH 6’10 C (2024) Indiana Elite (Sycamore)
Burgess is currently one of Ohio’s Top 3 sophomores and demonstrated why against Midwest BC. The Sycamore product has a nice arsenal already, combined with impressive size for a sophomore. Burgess showed patience and toughness in the paint making tough shots in traffic both off the block or on the run. HIs shooting mechanics look clean although he didn’t have many open looks in the Midwest game. Defensively understands the shifts and showed promise being a block protector as he continues to add more to his game.
Rayvon Griffith Rayvon Griffith 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #78 Nation AZ 6’7 SF (2023) Midwest Basketball Club (Taft)
Griffith joined an already talented Midwest team and gives them a freak athlete to go with their fundamentally sound guards. Griffith’s combination of length and quickness makes him a nightmare to prep for defensively. An elite slasher and leaper, Griffith has since added consistency to his jumper which allows him to pullup when defenses sag on him. Having two great passing guards around him should allow Griffith to continue to dominate on the offensive end when it comes to offensive output for Midwest. Already a household name before this AAU season, he owns several HM offers and could see some more as the Summer progresses.
