There were a number of 2023 prospects who helped boost their stock and catch more attention than they already had going into the spring. We are in the ripple effects from the COVID year, so capitalizing during live periods and building a solid foundation in regards to a recruiting resume is imperative. Here are some names to track for the upcoming weekend as the second live period takes place.
Solomon Ball Solomon Ball 6'3" | CG Brewster Academy | 2023 State #106 Nation NLG | Team Melo
It’s easy to have intrigue in Ball considering his frame (that should fill out nicely once he gets into a college conditioning program), his skill set as a lead guard and his overall upside as a prospect. The 6-foot-3 lefty helped Team Melo to a perfect 4-0 record in the opening weekend of EYBL play by averaging 20 points per game on 54 percent shooting from the field while hauling in 5.2 rebounds per game. Coaches are still looking for Ball to have more of an impact as a creator for others, but what he showed was great enough to earn scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Clemson, George Mason, Illinois, Providence, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech.
Isaiah Coleman Isaiah Coleman 6'5" | SF Word of God | 2023 State #59 Nation NC | Team Melo
Coleman, Ball’s backcourt mate, also put on a show with his scoring prowess from the off-ball guard position. The 6-foot-5 National Christian standout averaged an impressive 21.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and two steals per game. Coleman already has a slew of high major programs recruiting him, but his performance in particularly against City Rocks where he converted on the game-winning three should only gain more attention his way. Coleman has great size as a combo guard and a natural knack for putting the ball at the basket. He’s always a threat to score 20+ points whenever he steps onto the floor.
Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD | Team Durant
Hansberry sparked some more interest after a dominant junior season with Mount St. Joe. He earned offers from Villanova and St. Bonaventure while he continues to be recruited aggressively by the likes of Penn State, Illinois and others. Hansberry is a 6’7-6’8 big who took advantage of showcasing his versatile skill set this winter. His ability to score at a high rate from inside, from 15-to-17 feet and even the occasional three has given high major programs confidence in him as a long-term prospect. He’s relentless on the glass, a great communicator as the anchor of a defense and brings the leadership that any coach would love in a player.
Jahnathan Lamothe Jahnathan Lamothe 6'3" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #204 Nation MD | Team Durant
Lamothe is looking to gain steam this spring/summer and seems to be getting back into his groove with supreme confidence. The 6-foot-3 combo guard was re-offered by Maryland’s new staff and also received an offer from Georgia Tech. His stock will continue to climb if he makes shots from the outside at a steady rate and makes plays for others off the bounce, as he’s shown he’s able to do.
Savon Sutton | Team Thrill
Sutton is looking to inject some life in his recruitment with Team Thrill on the UAA Circuit and received a new offer from Siena thanks to his contributions in Indianapolis. The 6-foot-4 guard has nice size for his position with athleticism that makes him a versatile option on the defensive end. He’s a capable scorer from all three levels and has shown ability to put the ball on the deck and read defenses at a decent level.
