#1 Shady Springs HS the defending Class AAA state champions had little problems in the first round defeating North Marion HS 79-45. The Tigers (24-1) have now won 21 straight games. The Tigers had great balance all game long placing 5 players in double figures. Sophomore Ammar Maxwell Ammar Maxwell 6'3" | SG Shady Spring | 2024 State WV led the charge with 18 points.
Braden Chapman Braden Chapman 6'2" | PG Shady Spring | 2023 State WV added 17 points, Jaedan Holstein Jaedan Holstein 6'6" | PF Shady Springs | 2023 WV finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds while Cole Chapman Cole Chapman 6'0" | PG Shady Spring | 2023 State WV and Cameron Manns Cameron Manns 6'4" | SF Shady Spring | 2023 WV both finished with 11 points apiece. Cole finished with 11 assists and 7 steals. The Tigers picked up 25 steals tonight in the lopsided win.
Junior Harley Sickles Harley Sickles 6'4" | PF North Marion | 2023 WV an undersized post finished with 17 points for the Huskies. North Marion HS was playing without the services of senior Tariq Miller and junior Preston Williams. Miller is headed off to Glenville State next season to play football.
#3 Fairmont HS Polar Bears defeated a feisty group from Herbert Hoover HS (Clendenin) 56-47. The Polar Bears (22-3) were led in scoring by both Desean Goode Desean Goode 6'8" | PF Fairmont | 2023 WV and Zycheus Dobbs Zycheus Dobbs 6'2" | CG Fairmont | 2024 State WV with 15 points apiece. Goode a junior forward recorded 10 rebounds in the win. Eric Smith Eric Smith 6'6" | C Fairmont Senior | 2022 State WV a Miami (OH) Football signee added 10 points and 12 rebounds in the win for the Polar Bears.
Devin Hatfield Devin Hatfield 6'1" | SG Herbert Hoover | 2022 WV an University of Charleston football signee finished with 10 points in his last game for the Huskies. Hatfield shot just (3-16) from the floor.
Dane Hatfield Dane Hatfield 6'3" | SG Herbert Hoover | 2025 State WV just a freshman scored 20 points and 9 rebounds in his debut at the Class AAA State Tourney. Dane scored the first 15 points of the game for the Huskies. Teammate Eli Robertson finished with 10 points. The Huskies finished the season at (19-8).
#7 Scott HS (Madison) upset #2 Logan HS 65-63 at the buzzer to advance to the semifinals. Reece Carden Reece Carden 6'3" | SG Scott | 2023 WV dropped a floater with just over 1 second to play to give the Skyhawks victory. Carden finished the night with 26 points on 11-25 shooting while adding 7 rebounds.
Jaxon Cogar led the Wildcats (23-3) with 18 points while Garrett Williamson added 17 points in the loss.
Wheeling Central Catholic won in the nightcap over Grafton HS 73-63 to advance to the semifinals on Friday. Quinton Burlenski Quinton Burlenski 6'2" | SG Wheeling Central Catholic | 2024 State WV came up big all game long for the Maroon Knights in the opening round win. Burlenski scored 22 points while dropping 5 three pointers. Senior Michael Toepfer Michael Toepfer 6'2" | SF Wheeling Central Catholic | 2022 State WV finished the game with 15 points, Ryan Reasbeck Ryan Reasbeck 6'3" | SG Wheeling Central Catholic | 2022 State WV 14 points and Leyton Toepfer chipped in with 13 points.
Senior Ryan Maier Ryan Maier 5'10" | CG Grafton | 2022 State WV finished with 21 points and 6 assists in his last game for Grafton HS. Senior Tanner Moats added 15 points in the defeat.
