Continue ReadingEarlier this week we published our Class of 2025 updated prospect rankings. By now you are familiar with the names who have remained at the top list for the last year. Names like Shareef Jackson Shareef Jackson 6'9" | C Roman Catholic | 2025 State #249 Nation PA , Olin Chamberlin and Keon Mtume-Long Keon Mtume-Long 6'3" | SG Neumann-Goretti | 2025 State #393 Nation PA .
So today we will review the Pennsylvania Class of 2025 rankings to reveal five players who used the 2021 “fall ball” events as well as the 2021-22 high school season to grab our attention and thus make their rankings debut here in March 2022.
Below are five southeastern Pennsylvania Class of 2025 rankings “newcomers” you need to keep an eye on during the Spring 2022 grassroots circuit.
#83… Jake West Jake West 6'1" | PG William Penn Charter | 2025 State #193 Nation PA – 5’11” / Archbishop Carroll / Team Final Red / Combo Guard: West reclassed into the 2025 graduation year and thus he is “new” to that group in our updated rankings. West is well rounded prospect who provides scoring and playmaking from both backcourt spots. His watery jumper is automatic from anywhere on the floor. This season he drained triples at a 43% clip which provided additional floor spacing ( Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ is also in their lineup) for Carroll’s offense. With his shooting skills, significant basketball IQ and ability to distribute the rock, West is an extremely dangerous pick-n-roll guard. This winter West demonstrated that he could play out in transition too. He started 11 games for Carroll this season and averaged 8 points along with 2.6 assist per game. West scored a season high 16 points (4 threes) vs. St. Joe’s Prep. Holds an offer from St. Francis (NY).
#114… Amon Fowlkes Amon Fowlkes 5'8" | CG Coatesville | 2025 State PA – 5’8” / Collegium Charter / 610 City / Combo Guard: What you notice immediately with Fowlkes is his next level quickness and superb defensive skills. When Fowlkes is in the game, he takes on the responsibility of guarding the other team’s primary ball handler. That is typically bad news for opposing point guards, as Fowlkes averaged 2.5 steals per game. On offense Fowlkes is a solid shooter (40% on FGAs) who can get to the rim off the dribble. He will also sprinkle in the occasional 3-ball. S his perimeter shotting develops further Fowlkes will become a scary offensive threat. He recorded a season high 13 points in two games as well as 11 points against eventual PCL champions Neumann-Goretti.
#133… Donovan Fromhartz Donovan Fromhartz 6'5" | SF Downingtown West | 2025 State PA – 6’4” / Downingtown West / East Coast Power / Wing: Fromhartz is a long and athletic wing who started numerous games for a Whippets team that went to the 6A state tournament. His added scoring ability was a significant boost for D-West this season. Fromhartz can drain threes or get points in transition. This first year varsity player will catch opponents by surprise with his ability to play above the rim. Fromhartz is also a solid passer who can distribute from the wing or high post. This winter he registered 15 points (1 three) against WC Henderson and 12 points (2 threes) in a win over Coatesville.
#134… Deuce Maxey Deuce Maxey 6'2" | SG Archbishop Wood | 2025 State PA – 6’1” / Archbishop Wood / Team Final EYBL / Combo Guard: During his freshman campaign Maxey earned minutes for a Wood team that boasts numerous DI guard prospects and advanced to the Final 4 of the 6A state tourney. Maxey’s quickness and creative handles allow him to excel against man-to-man defense and full court pressure. He is a natural scorer who can put the ball in the hoop at all 3-levels. Still, Maxey possesses extraordinary court vision as well as a team first mentality, so he will not hesitate to move the ball to an open shooter. This winter Maxey shot 41% from three and scored season high 9 points (3-4 on threes) vs. Boys’ Latin.
#135… Matt Gardler Matt Gardler 5'10" | SG Marple Newtown | 2025 State PA – 5’10” / Marple Newtown / Shooting Guard: Matt is the latest prospect in the long and storied Gardler family basketball pipeline (Google it.). Gardler is a phenomenal shooter with range well beyond the arc (45% on threes). His non-stop off-ball movement creates wide open looks for him. Gardler (6.3 ppg.) is also an extremely efficient player who frequently scores without the use of any dribbles. He owns a high basketball IQ and is poised beyond his years. In short, he plays like a young Klay Thompson. Highlighting Gardler’s 2021-22 season was a 15-point game (3/3 on threes) against Radnor and 11 points in Marple’s 6A state tourney quarterfinal loss to nationally ranked Imhotep.
