The league featured a few of the top up and coming players in the the Southern California area as well as some of the best unsigned seniors. I was able to attend the league on Sunday March 13 and here’s a quick look at some of the top standouts I saw.
1. Elijah Price Elijah Price 6'8" | PF St. Anthony | 2022 State CA-S – St. Anthony 2022
Price is one of the best unsigned seniors in the Los Angeles area. He’s a versatile forward who do a little bit of everything offensively. He can handle the ball on the break and he makes good decisions/right passes. He finishes strong in the paint. He can shoot the ball off the dribble in the midrange and he has range out to the three-point line. His passing in the high post is solid for a big. Defensively, he can guard wings or he can anchor the paint.
2. Brendan Terry – LA Premier Prep 2022
Terry is another versatile forward who can do multiple things on the court. He’s very athletic and active around the rim. He gets up high and looks to finish strong through traffic. He runs the floor well and can move well without the ball to get into scoring position. He’s able to handle the ball well in transition and he has worked on making the right reads/passes while on the break. He has consistent range out to the three-point line. Able to create his own shot.
3. Eme Ngo – Renaissance Academy 2023
Ngo displayed a very good slashing game. He was very efficient at getting to the rim off the dribble and showed good ball-handling ability. He also moved well without the ball and made strong cuts to the rim. He’s a wing that’s more comfortable playing around the rim but he could develop a bit of an outside shot to open up his offense a little more. He has good footwork in the post and showed off a nice little hook shot. Finishes aggressively through traffic with good body control.
4. Mateo Duran Mateo Duran 5'11" | SG St. John Bosco | 2023 State CA-S – St John Bosco 2023
Duran has the tools to be a very good point guard. He’s a crafty ball-handler who can dribble under defensive pressure. He’s very quick off the dribble and can get past his defender without a screen. Uses spin moves to get into the lane and he can finish with both hands. Draws contact and the rim and gets to the free-throw line. Good shooter from three-point range. He has good court vision, especially in transition where he makes good passes to open teammates running the floor.
