Continue ReadingOn Friday and Saturday, the LHSAA named seven new state champions during the Non-Select state championships. While Simsboro, Madison Prep, Port Allen, and Zachary were repeat champions, new and returning champions were crowned. North Central, Carver, and Gibsland-Coleman were the teams that took home hardware for their schools. During the championship games, each team had players who had noteworthy performances. In this Prep Hoops Louisiana exclusive, we will look at those performances and name an all-championship team from the two days of action.
First Team
Jalen Bolden Jalen Bolden 6'5" | SG Zachary | 2022 State LA (Zachary) – Named 5A MOP; scored 23 points in the 5A championship game
Terrance James Terrance James 6'4" | SF Gibsland-Coleman | 2023 State LA (Gbisland-Coleman) – Named Class C MOP; achieved a 20-15 double-double in the Class C championship
Nick Maryland Nick Maryland 6'2" | CG Simsboro | 2022 State LA (SImsboro) – Named Class B MOP; scored 18 points and had 7 assists during the Class B championship
Elliot McQuillan Elliot McQuillan 6'2" | SG Port Allen | 2023 State LA (Port Allen) – Named Class 2A MOP; achieved a double-double en route to a Pelican 3-peat
Dezmond Perkins Dezmond Perkins 6'5" | SG Madison Prep | 2022 State LA (Madison Prep) – Named Class 3A MOP; scored 21 points during the 3A championship victory for the Chargers
Reginald Stoner Reginald Stoner 6'1" | CG North Central | 2022 State LA (North Central) – Named Class 1A MOP; scored 20 points and had 7 steals during the North Central victory
Solomon Washington Solomon Washington 6'7" | SF Carver | 2022 State #127 Nation LA (Carver) – Named Class 4A MOP; was one assist short of a triple-double during the Carver title win

Willie Anderson Willie Anderson 6'2" | CG G.W. Carver | 2022 State LA (Carver) – Scored 17 points and gathered 5 boards in the Carver win over McMain
Jordan Brooks Jordan Brooks 6'6" | SF Port Allen | 2022 State LA (Port Allen) – Had 15 points (3 triples) and 7 rebounds during the Port Allen victory over Amite
Dylan Dominque (Madison Prep) – The Charger point guard scored 12 points and grabbed 7 boards during their 3A title victory
De’Avery Durham (Gibsland-Coleman) – Scored 17 points off the bench with two steals during the Bulldogs Class C title win
De’Vion Lavergne De’Vion Lavergne 6'3" | CG North Central | 2023 State LA (North Central) – The Hurricane guard finished the 1A championship with a 22 point and 10 rebound performance
Chilaydrien Newton Chilaydrien Newton 6'3" | PG Simsboro | 2023 UT (Simsboro) – His 21 point, 3 assists showing helped Simsboro repeat as Class B champions
Brandon Hardy Brandon Hardy 6'4" | SG Zachary | 2023 State #234 Nation LA (Zachary) – Rodgers-Hardy finished the 5A title game with 18 points and 5 assists

Joseph Adams (Calvin) – The Calvin senior scored 18 points, pulled down 8 boards, and had 7 steals in their loss to Gibsland-Coleman
Dorian Finister Dorian Finister 6'5" | CG Carver | 2022 State #173 Nation LA (Carver) – His 14 point and 6 rebound performance helped Carver win the Class 4A title game
Wayne Huckaby Wayne Huckaby 6'0" | PG Calvin | 2022 State LA (Calvin) – Calvin’s senior point guard scored 17 points and pulled down 4 boards in the Class C championship game
Nicholas Kaigler Nicholas Kaigler 6'3" | SG McMain | 2022 State LA (McMain) – The McMain wing had 11 points and 3 rebounds during the 4A title game
Laurence Nathan Laurence Nathan 6'2" | PG Carver | 2024 State LA (Carver) – Nathan scored 17 points and nabbed two steals during Carver’s 4A championship victory.
Kohen Rowbatham Kohen Rowbatham 6'1" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2024 State LA (Northshore) – Rowbatham finished the 5A title game with 15 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
Jalan Washington Jalan Washington 6'1" | CG White Castle | 2023 State LA (White Castle) – The junior guard scored 14 points and pulled down 7 boards in the 1A title game loss to North Central
The high school season will reach its finale this coming weekend with the All-star game in Pineville. Several players from Marsh Madness (4 from the first team list) will participate in the boys game which begins at 3 pm on Saturday. High school teams will resume action and preparation for next season in mid-May through the end of June through team camp and summer league play all over the state.
