It was great to see players in the gym on a Sunday afternoon working to improve their games. What did we have today? AAU tryouts at West Fargo Sheyenne for North Dakota Attack. Today’s tryouts were for 15U and 16U players. There were players from both Minnesota and North Dakota in attendance. I noticed players from Ada/Borup, Fargo South, Sheyenne, Central Cass, Davies, Moorhead, Northern Cass, Horace, Fargo North, and West Fargo. There was plenty of skill, talent, and size in the gym today. Let’s take a look at who stood out…
STANDOUTS
(Alphabetically ordered)
Cedric Taylor (2024) |SF| West Fargo
He was one of the better athletes on the court today. Cedric is a bouncy and powerful athlete that can dunk with ease. When attacking the basket he covers a ton of ground. Taylor looked good when attacking off the bounce in the scrimmage.
Chase Bachmeier Chase Bachmeier 5'11" | PG Central Cass | 2024 ND (2024) |5-10 G| Central Cass
He showed good shooting form and mechanics. In the scrimmage, Chase knocked down shots by spacing around the arc and stepping into the pass for a fluid jump shot.
Elijah Kladiihbah (2024) |G| West Fargo
He showed good handles with a smooth crossover and between-the-legs move. Elijah is a quick player and a hustler. When scrimmaging, Elijah attacked the basket and finished at the rim multiple times. He also read eyes on defense and picked off a pass like a D-back.
John Angau John Angau 6'4" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND (2024) |6-1 SG| West Fargo Sheyenne
He has good size with long arms. Angau is crafty and skilled. His handles looked smooth during the skills portion. John has good feet when shooting jumpers. I like the way he spots up with proper footwork and his hands are always ready to catch and let it fly.
Justin Sanchez (2024) |G| Horace
He is a left-handed player and a hustler. I liked the way that Justin sprinted the floor. He also showed great effort on defense by getting his hands on the ball/passes.
Keech Bior Keech Bior 6'8" | PF Brookings | 2024 State SD (2024) |6-9 PF| Fargo North
When I walked into the gym, Bior was the first player that I noticed. He is obviously tall but his wingspan seems to never end. Bior dunks with little effort it seems. However, he still impressed me with his leaping for rebounds and blocking shots. Bior showed a soft touch when shooting a floater. He looks to be a capable 3-point shooter and solid from 15-feet. Keech’s high release makes his jump shot almost unstopable. With his height, crazy long arms, and mobility, Bior is a player that you must keep an eye on!
Leng Akol (2024) |SF| Fargo Davies
He stuck out right away with very long arms. I liked his effort when fighting for rebounds.
Mason Larson (2025) |6-2 F| Ada-Borup-West
He is long for only being a 9th grader. At the end of the workout, Larson looked good catching-n-shooting 3-pointers. He did not look overmatched when going against the older sophomores.
Moose Diomande Moose Diomande 6'3" | SF Horace | 2024 State ND (2024) |6-0 G| Horace
He is long, has good skills, and he can finish well with his left. He stood out with crisp passes and a nice-looking jump shot off the dribble. Moose really stood out as an excellent communicator. He is a smart cutter, effective slasher, a shot blocker, and a 3-point shooter. In the scrimmage, Moose had a physical AND 1 finish and he hustled to save loose balls. Diomande was one of the best players in the gym today.
Mike Siffoi Mike Siffoi 5'9" | PG Horace | 2024 State ND (2024) |5-9 G| Horace
He is an explosive athlete. Mike showed nice ball skills when going through the potion of skill drills. He also knocked down a good amount of triples in the shooting drills. I was impressed with how Siffoi can sky for rebounds against bigger and taller players.
Philip Deng (2025) |SF| Fargo Davies
Extra-long for only a 9th grader. During the skills portion, he knocked down quite a few 3-pointers from the corner. His length and mobility are intriguing.
Riley Opheim (2024) |G| Fargo North
He looks to be a fluid athlete and smooth with the basketball. I liked the way Riley battled for rebounds. He stroked a corner 3-ball in the scrimmage.
Wyatt Larson (2024) |5-9 G| Ada-Borup-West
I liked the way that Larson used his body to protect the ball when finishing. He looks to be a crafty guard with skilled handles. In the scrimmage, Wyatt was a slasher and he showed a perfect shot-fake at the rim. He also drained a nice catch-n-shoot triple.
Zacharia Nhial Zacharia Nhial 6'3" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2025 ND (2025) |6-2 G/F| West Fargo Sheyenne
He is a righty unlike his star older brother Michael Nhial Michael Nhial 6'7" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND . Much like his brother, Zach has very long arms. He shot it well from beyond the arc. In the scrimmage with the sophomores, Nhial hit multiple 3-balls. Zach showed a great step-back and a smooth catch-n-shoot triple. I liked how Zach reads the defense when he does not have the ball. His wingspan will make him a disruptive defender and a great rebounder as he ages.
