We got some consolation games in as well for some teams still fighting to end their seasons on a high note. Let’s look at some of Monday’s top performers.
Luke Gebhardt, 6’ G, 2023, Southeast of Saline: An X-Factor outside of Saline’s two stars, Gebhardt’s steady hand and ability to have an impact on the game across the stat line made him key for them pulling away against Minneapolis in round one of sub-state. A high IQ guard that is always in great positions to get himself a solid opportunity to score or makes the right pass to open teammates. A very consistent guard who is effective both on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.
Parker Leeds Parker Leeds 6'1" | PG Emporia | 2023 State KS , 6’1 PG, 2023, Emporia: In a nice battle and intriguing matchup with Newman and their solid backcourt, the dynamic and versatile guard Leeds had himself quite the night recording a double double with 14 points and 10 assists. Leeds has a good understanding of the game as a junior, reads defenses well, and in transition his quickness puts defenses at a disadvantage. Leeds pesky on ball defense and rebounding ability from the guard spot also came in hand last night.
Bryce Beisner Bryce Beisner 6'7" | PF Beloit | 2024 State KS , 6’6 F, 2024, Beloit: The long forward has been a steady paint force for the Trojans on both ends of the floor and it was more of the same last night. Controlling the paint on the offensive ends scoring the ball inside off touches and offensive boards. His aggressiveness and paint dominance can take them quite far this post season. Had a double double to start off post season play last night.
Braeden Howard, 6’8 F, 2022, Pleasant Ridge: Had himself a night to open up sub-state with a home win over Perry Lecompton. Howard had his way with the undersized Kaws inside, getting to his spots in the paint and getting scoring angles. Also threw down a beautiful lob dunk to set the ton in the second half, and showed off some range stepping out to hit a three ball. Howard continuing to impact games in the manner will have P Ridge flying through the post season.
Dylan Petz Dylan Petz 6'0" | CG Newton | 2022 State KS , 6’ G, 2022, Newton: Finished off a really solid high school career at Newton with a loss last night to Emporia, but Petz’s shooting ability, competitiveness, solid handle all came in to play last night in a solid effort. A quality guard in the 2022 class that should really help a program out at the next level. Petz brings a ton of shooting, a high IQ, and versatility in the back court.
Brady Klotz Brady Klotz 6'4" | SF Royal Valley | 2022 State KS , 6’5 F, 2022, Royal Valley: Anyone of the big 4 of RV could have been highlighted here, but Klotz had it all rolling against Jeff West. Played up at the rim with a lob, stepped out and hit his corner three balls, punished the boards, and finished efficiently off nice passes from his teammates. His size, versatility, and hard nosed play were and will continue to be a massive factor moving forward.
