LHSBCA All-Star Game Unsigned Seniors to Watch
In this article:
The Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association (LHSBCA) will host their annual East-West All-star game in Pineville, Louisiana on the campus of Louisiana Christian University. Seniors from 29 schools will get a chance to display their talents on the hardwood one last time. With an abundance of talent such as this, there will be various players to watch as some of them are unknown to the masses and fans in attendance. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will take a look at seniors to watch during the All-star game.
Bennett Briggs (Christ Episcopal)
Briggs has a deliberate release but is uncanny from distance. The 6’1″ senior is also active with his hands on defense and reads passes well. He may not be the most athletically gifted player in this game; however, he is one that should not be left open. Briggs can fill it up quickly.
Donald Butler Donald Butler 6'5" | SF Walker | 2022 State LA (Walker)
Butler is another high flyer who is very good at filling the wing when he is on the break. In this all-star setting, he will probably get plenty of opportunities to show what he can do in the open floor. LCU better have their rims tightened up.
Calvin Collins Calvin Collins 6'4" | SF BTW (Shreveport) | 2022 State LA (BTW-Shreveport)
There is not a player who plays harder than Collins in this game. He will not be intimidated by some of the other bigs with bigger names and he will play like he belongs. Collins has a smooth baseline jumper and can play above the rim so this game fits his skill set well.
Wayne Huckaby Wayne Huckaby 6'0" | PG Calvin | 2022 State LA (Calvin)
Last Friday he showed that he can direct a team and be a reliable scorer. In this game, he will have a plethora of weapons to choose from when he has the ball. Getting the ball to the scorers he has in this game may help Huckaby land on someone’s basketball roster for next season.
Jacobee Jackson Jacobee Jackson 6'3" | SG BTW (Shreveport) | 2022 LA (BTW-Shreveport)
The Lions having two players in this game shows how good Coach Kenny Sykes team was. Jackson can spot up with the best of them from deep and he is deadly from the elbow area. In a game like this, Jackson can open a lot of eyes with his shooting prowess.
Marquarius Johnson Marquarius Johnson 6'1" | CG Southwood | 2022 State LA (Southwood)
Put a player that can flat out score in an all-star game and watch him put the ball in the basket. Johnson can make tough shots, open shots, or contested shots. The way he plays with others may go a long way in showing what he can do on the next level.
Markell McClain Markell McClain 6'3" | SG Peabody | 2022 State LA (Peabody)
McClain is basically playing at home being that he is a Peabody senior. He will have the hometown crowd with him. McClain will also have his mid-range jumper and his signature defense going for him as well. He might very well win the MVP in this game.
Dmitry Payne Dmitry Payne 5'9" | PG Lincoln Prep | 2022 State LA (Lincoln Prep)
Payne is one of the reasons that Lincoln Prep made a deep playoff run to Marsh Madness. He can defend baseline-to-baseline and can get to the rim almost at will. Those two traits, along with making a few jumpers, will draw him some interest from coaches watching this game.
Mason Russell Mason Russell 6'2" | CG Hamilton Christian | 2022 State LA (Hamilton Christian)
He might have been one of the quiet scorers on a very good Hamilton Christian team. However, Russell is a prep who can play this game at a high level. He can rebound well and shoot it well from the perimeter. Both things should give him plenty of chances to score in Pineville.
Albert Shell Albert Shell 6'3" | SG Wossman | 2022 State LA (Wossman)
Shell could not have picked a worse time to have had a bad game. I am sure his last game at Wossman is not how he wants to be remembered and this game will give him a chance to change that. Shell is long, athletic, and can shoot. This all-star format fits him perfectly.
There will be plenty of notable seniors such as Texas A&M signee Solomon Washington Solomon Washington 6'7" | SF Carver | 2022 State #127 Nation LA and ULM commit Jalen Bolden Jalen Bolden 6'5" | SG Zachary | 2022 State LA playing alongside these preps above so this will be a game to see who can out-perform the other. It will be a festive duel. If it comes down to an ending like the last couple of years, we may see some exciting and high level play in the H.O. West Fieldhouse.
