The first of two matchups I caught featured Arizona powers AZ Compass Prep and Hillcrest Prep. I highlight some of the top performers for both teams in this exciting game.
Jason Asemota (2022)
Asemota was one of the bright points for Hillcrest in their loss to Compass. The 6-foot-7 SF brought a lot of energy on the floor and played with a lot of passion. Communicated on the defensive end and was a vocal leader throughout the matchup. Asemota has a nice midrange shot and gets good separation to get these shots off.
Adrame Diongue Adrame Diongue 6'11" | C AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #202 Nation AZ (2022)
Diongue has a lot of length as he stands 7-feet tall and really dominates in a variety of ways. Elite rebounder as he almost grabs the ball off the rim with his length and vertical. Too big to shoot over as he swats pretty much anything in the paint. Great body and especially good seal offs on the offensive end and finished at a high percentage around the rim.
Kylan Boswell Kylan Boswell 6'2" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2023 AZ (2023)
Boswell was probably the best defender in this game as he showed great poise and tenacity guarding the perimeter. Brings intensity but was controlled in how he played and was smart about his decisions defensively. Stockier frame with some upside offensively as well.
Dylan Andrews Dylan Andrews 6'3" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #23 Nation AZ (2022)
Andrews came off the bench but was a bright spot for Compass. Good acceleration on the drive and shifty with ball. Not rushed and relatively calm with the basketball in his hands. Confident and poised. Tight handle. I was impressed with Andrews’ versatility scoring in the midrange or driving to the rim. Committed to UCLA and should fit well in Coach Cronin’s system.
Aboubacar Cisse (2022)
Cisse brought some Ohio flare for Hillcrest as he filled in for them due to being short some players. Cisse showed he fits in as he kept up with the fast pace and contributed off the bench. Known previously for his scoring ability off dribble drive, I felt like Cisse had a better midrange shot this time around and knocked down some tough shots with pressure. Great athleticism and still an unsigned senior.
