College Commitment: Samaje Morgan (2022 Churchill)
It’s been a brilliant high school career for Samaje Morgan Samaje Morgan 5'9" | PG Churchill | 2022 State OR . Ever since the quick 5-foot-10 point guard burst onto the scene at Churchill High School, he’s proven himself as one of the top point guards in the state. Now that he’s finished off a fantastic four years, Morgan is headed off to college and will be following family footsteps in doing so.
“I’m going to the College of Idaho to play for my brother and try to win a national championship,” Morgan said. “I love the environment out there and the community – they pack their games and they love their basketball team. I want to go where not only the community is great but the team is great too. They had a chance to win the national championship this year – they were right there – and I feel like we’ll have a good chance.”
One of Morgan’s older brothers, Emmanuel Morgan, is an assistant coach at the College of Idaho. That certainly played heavily as also the fact that another one of Morgan’s brothers will also be moving out there and retiring Churchill head coach Kelly Bokn will be living in the area. The commitment completes a recruitment that saw schools from a number of different levels show interest, but in the end it was the program that wanted the quick point guard the most that got his pledge.
Morgan is currently preparing for the WAVOR game, the all-star contest between the top players in Oregon versus the top players in Washington. He’s honored to be selected and likes their chances against the normally very talented Washington squad.
“We have a lot of good players,” Morgan said. “I don’t know all of (Washington’s) players but I know some of them and they are great players. But I don’t really know who’s going to stop us. We have the best guards in the state, we have some really good posts – we’ll see.”
As noted, Morgan completed a fantastic career, one in which he scored 1360 career points. As far as his senior season goes, Morgan has no regrets. “We got third place and all of us were happy about it and there was nothing to hang our heads about,” Morgan said. “I felt like I led my team to be in the best position we could be in. I had a bigger role with scoring – I can facilitate and all that, but had to step up.”
We would like to congratulate Morgan his family on his decision. He currently ranks as the #2 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
