Andale guards:
Andale advanced with a 62-52 win over Paola, and it was in large part due to some great work by the Indian guards. Seniors Zach Winter and Jacksyn Potucek showed nice ability to stretch the defense and can shots from deep. They moved the ball and handled the Paola full court pressure. They finished with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Tegan Orth was a spark off the bench. He brings a lot of energy and some fearlessness to the backcourt. He turned up the defense and really pushed the ball in transition. He got 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in reserve action and was a big part of the momentum for the Indians.
Cory Muehler, 5-foot-11 guard, 2024, McPherson:
The sophomore connected on 3-6 from deep and 6-6 from the line to finish with 17 points in just 18 minutes of action against Buhler. He also grabbed 3 rebounds. Fouls limited his time, but he showed he can handle the ball and make good decisions under pressure. The group of sophomore guards at McPherson will be fun to watch develop.
Grant Ricker, 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, Buhler:
Ricker helped keep Buhler in the game and was their primary deep threat when they threatened a late comeback against McPherson. He dropped 4-6 from deep in the loss, finishing with 16 points. He is the Crusaders’ best option to stretch the defense and take some attention away from Jackson Voth.
Kale Hammerschmidt, 5-foot-8 guard, 2023, Eudora:
Fellow guard Logan Sullivan is going to be a riser to watch from the 2024 class, but Thursday Hammerschmidt was equally impressive running the point for Eudora. He’s a bulldog who is in the mix for every loose ball and doesn’t back down from pressure. He handles the ball well and nailed all three deep-balls he put up. He got 11 points in the loss to Hayden.
Brax Fisher Brax Fisher 6'1" | PG Abilene | 2024 State KS , 6-foot guard, 2024, Abilene:
It was a rough night for the Cowboys. They were never in the game. But Fisher was competitive and wound up as Abilene’s second-leading scorer in the game with 7 points. He can handle the ball and shoot it. He’ll be a nice piece to build around.
Thomas McClendon, 6-foot-4 forward, 2024, Abilene:
Like Fisher, McClendon will be a piece to build around in the future. He has nice spring and a solid body for a 2024. He blocked some shots and was an active presence in the lane at the defensive end. He grabbed three rebounds in about half a game, and showed he can run the floor too.
