Continue ReadingThe Sophomore class is a good one and we’ve already got over 100 ranked players in the class before their 16u AAU seasons start. There are several kids with modest statistics but big time potential so it’s been a tough class to figure out so far. These are the top Combo Guards in the 2024 rankings. This does not include players who were in the top 10 of the rankings.
Max Green Max Green 6'6" | CG Oldham County | 2024 State KY , Oldham County – Green has come a long way in a short time and has proven himself to be worthy of the big move up the rankings in the latest update. Max is a good shooter with a knack for taking and making big shots. He keeps growing and that makes it hard to add bulk to his frame but once he stops growing, he should be able to add some strength that will help him become a better finisher.
Riley Brown Riley Brown 6'3" | CG Washington County | 2024 State KY , Thomas Nelson – Brown is known primarily as a shooter but has become a more well rounded player who can put the ball on the deck and attack the rim. Standing about 6’3, Riley can switch and guard multiple positions and isn’t afraid to stick his nose in the paint and grab rebounds in traffic.
Jack Reddick Jack Reddick 6'4" | PG Lyon County | 2024 State KY , Lyon County – One of the lesser known players at Lyon, Jack is a versatile guard who can set up open shots for others and is more than capable of creating his own offense. Lyon County had a historic run this season and Reddick stepped up big time to provide a consistent 3rd scorer for them in addition to being able to act as a primary ball handler who initiates the offense.
Julian Bunton, Butler – Bunton was hindered by an injury that cost him about half the season and then couldn’t quite find his groove once he returned to the lineup for the Bears. Julian will be in line for a big (and likely starting) role next season and is capable of a big AAU summer that leads to some early college interest. He has all the tools to be a scholarship player once he puts it all together.
Gavin Grubbs Gavin Grubbs 6'1" | CG University Heights Academy | 2024 State KY , UHA – The far western end of Kentucky doesn’t get a ton of coverage but Grubbs has been making his name known over the last couple of seasons and intends to become the next great guard from UHA. Grubbs has stood out in camp settings when I’ve seen him and has a big summer of AAU ahead. Gavin is shifty and can get downhill in a hurry. As he becomes a consistent shooter from deep. his stock will continue taking off.
