We dive into the positional rankings. We now look at the combo guards for the graduating senior class.
Here are the top-7 CG’s in the 2022 class: (All seven can play on or off the ball.)
Mekhi Mason Mekhi Mason 6'4" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State AZ AZ Compass Prep
A bigger combo guard grew up playing the point guard spot and can move over easily to the two. He will actually play PG at Rice Univ next year and off the ball too. He has an easy 3pt stroke, above the rim bounce and is a top defender.
Lamar Washington Lamar Washington 6'4" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #128 Nation AZ AZ Compass Prep
Another Dragon guard who is versatile. He is one of the more physical guards on the West Coast. He carves out space with his strength, handle and girth. He seems to bounce off of defenders scoring though contact. The lefty can hit the 3 and is headed to Texas Tech.
Caleb Shaw Caleb Shaw 6'3" | CG Phhprep | 2022 State AZ Valley Christian
The Northern Colorado commit had an amazing playoff run. He had nearly 30 in every game and topped it off with a poster dunk in the state finals. He can hit the 3 plus has a sneaky quick burst to get to the rim. He finishes it well in the lane and can make plays for others.
Nate Pickens Nate Pickens 6'3" | CG Az Compass | 2022 State AZ Dream City Christian
A true combo guard can play the PG spot but has relished in the role of shooting guard at Dream City. He can hit shots from the perimeter and can flush it down in transition. He is headed to UC Riverside next year.
Jake Lifgren Jake Lifgren 6'2" | CG Centennial | 2022 State AZ Centennial
One of the pure scorers of 5A all year long. He finally finished the deal this year and won the state finals this year as they lost last year to Catalina Foothills. His shot is pure from mid to the 3 and is quicker then you realize to get to the rim. Lifgren will play for Point Loma next year.
Andrew King Andrew King 6'3" | CG Bella Vista Prep | 2022 State AZ Bella Vista Prep
A sharp shooter has drastically improved his point guard play and passing. He thinks the game and makes all the correct reads. He still has a strap from deep and uses his stronger frame to get downhill and is tough on the ball defensively.
Dasean Lecque Dasean Lecque 6'0" | CG Bella Vista Prep | 2022 State #207 Nation AZ Bella Vista Prep
A quick and strong scoring guard. He plays a little on or off the ball but is mostly looking to put the ball in the basket. He has a mean pull-up from mid to the 3 and gets to the rim with his burst and speed. He takes contact about as well as you could for his size.
