From COVID-19 canceling spring and summer club sessions to delaying an entire high school season and causing some game cancellations, we were finally able to get a season that allowed us to get a complete look at how the 2022 class stacks up which leads to our most recent updated rankings for the senior class.
In this piece we take a look at how the combo guard position breaks down. From the top-ranked guys to the guys who could out-play their rankings at the college level.
Top Combo Guards
1. RJ Smith RJ Smith 6'4" | CG Damien | 2022 State CA-S , Damien – The Colorado-bound wing has shown over the last four seasons at Damien that he can play a variety of positions on the offensive end and can guard multiple positions defensively. Smith improved aspects of his game each and every year from being a high level rebounder, defender and intangible guy his freshman year to a combo guard who could initiate offense, lead the team in scoring and defend the opposing team’s best player on any given night. Smith checks in at No. 6 overall in the rankings and the No. 1 overall combo guard.
2. Ramel Lloyd Jr. , Sierra Canyon – Like the other combo guards on this list, Lloyd impacts the game in a variety of ways. At 6-feet-6 with fluid athleticism, ball skills, shooting and finishing ability, the Nebraska-bound senior can play three positions on the court from point guard to shooting guard to small forward. Lloyd is our No. 9 overall player and No. 2 overall combo guard.
3. Shyheim Parm Shyheim Parm 6'1" | CG Cajon | 2022 State CA-S , Cajon – Parm is a dynamic, athletic and aggressive-minded scoring guard who can play both on or off the ball. Parm can score in bunches both in transition and driving and hitting from deep in the half-court setting. The 6-foot-1 senior recently announced he is doing a post-grad year and should be a prospect that Division 1 programs take a close look at over the next 12 months. Parm is the No. 30-overall prospect in our final 2022 rankings.
4. Cord Stansberry Cord Stansberry 6'3" | SG Shadow Hills | 2022 State CA-S , Shadow Hills – The 6-foot-3 guard/wing is perhaps one of the most underrated prospects in all of SoCal mainly because his high school is located deep in the Coachella Valley and he doesn’t have as many eyes on his games as those in the Metro Los Angeles area. Regardless, Stansberry is a Division 1-caliber recruit whose shiftiness and ability to score from all three levels of the floor while also possessing the feel and vision to create for himself and teammates. Stansberry is our No. 32 overall prospect and 4th-ranked combo guard.
5. Ramsey Huff Ramsey Huff 6'1" | CG Corona Centennial | 2022 State CA-S , Corona Centennial – There are very few guys in Southern California who boosted their stock as much as Huff did this season. The 6-foot-1 sharpshooter was a crucial component of the Huskies’ run to CIF State and Southern Section Open Division championships. Huff is one of the best spot-shooters in the region and flashed some playmaking ability off the bounce this season, as well.
Who Could Out-Play Their Ranking?
Michael Miller Michael Miller 6'3" | CG Oak Hills | 2022 State CA-S , Oak Hills – Miller is as talented as they come and the No. 43-overall prospect and our 6th-ranked combo guard is looking into a prep school year to get some more exposure after playing his high school years up in the high desert. Miller has a college-type body with a similar level of athleticism, and he used those traits to be an explosive transition scorer and finisher.
