Three Up
Farmington (14-6). Kyle Hrncir Kyle Hrncir 6'4" | PF Farmington | 2022 State MN continues to improve and his team continues to improve along with him. Kyle is a senior that is scoring 23 points a game. He’s coming off a 40 point performance against Prior Lake. That was the 6th win in a row for the Tigers as they pushed into the top ten of Class AAAA. Wins over Shakopee, Eden Prairie, Lakeville North, and Lakeville South have made sure everybody has taken notice. Sam Hoffman Sam Hoffman 6'3" | SG Farmington | 2022 State MN is scoring 14 a game as the shooter we know he is, Baiden Bean Baiden Bean 6'1" | PG Farmington | 2023 State MN is the playmaker we thought he would be, and senior Brendan Ebel has emerged as another double figure option. The Tigers have won six in a row.
Cretin-Derham Hall (11-7). It’s not that the Raiders have won three in a row it’s that they beat East Ridge, Park of Cottage Grove, and Woodbury earning those three wins in a row. CDH is pushing back into the mix of state contenders having won 6 of 7 and 9 of their last 11 games. Tre Holloman Tre Holloman 6'2" | PG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State #57 Nation MN has been playing his best basketball of the season while Donavhan Cain is scoring 18 a game and Brandon Melchior Brandon Melchior 6'10" | C Elk River | 2022 State MN has hit a stride scoring 4/5 times a game on average.
Cambridge-Isanti. After a rough start the Bluejackets have won five games in a row! It’s quite incredible and a potential story of how a team can be turned around as they mature and build chemistry. CI lost their first ten games of the year and 15 of their first 16. BUT, they beat Chisago Lakes on January 27th and haven’t lost since. Wins over North Branch, Forest Lake, St. Francis, and Big Lake have followed. Leading scorer Kobe Karels Kobe Karels 6'2" | PG Cambridge | 2023 State MN just had a 33 point game hitting five threes to beat Big Lake, sophomore John Troolin had 19 helping CI beat St. Francis, and overall the team has made this season into a fun story.
Three Down
Rosemount. The Irish have hit a stretch of bad luck. They have lost five straight and all the games were very close! A one basket loss to Buffalo was followed by three four point losses to Prior Lake, Lakeville South, and Eastview plus the Shakopee game was a seven point loss. Things don’t get easier tonight as Farmington – obviously listed above as one of the hottest teams in AAAA basketball – is the opponent.
East Ridge. The Raptors are still a top team in the state. They are ranked in the top five, East Ridge is likely the top seed in the section at the moment, and they are still a top team in the state. They did recently suffer a setback losing to CDH by 17 and then losing to White Bear Lake by nine points. This week the Raptors have Forest Lake, Stillwater, and Minneapolis North.
Hopkins. The Royals have lost six of their last nine games. The opponents have been high level – Wayzata, Minnetonka, Columbia Heights, and Minneapolis North – and the Royals did beat Edina and Eden Prairie, but Hopkins with seven losses with five games to go in the regular season is not a common item.
