Stock Watch: Sophomores Trending Up
In this article:
There are some Sophomores who have all the tools but haven’t always had the most opportunity until recently. Here’s a look at some 2024s worth investing in.
Jaylan Rigdon Jaylan Rigdon 6'0" | PG Pike County Central | 2024 State KY , Pike County Central – Pike Central is overachieving and Rigdon’s performance is a large reason why. Stepping up as a reliable secondary scorer, Jaylan is hard to stop when attacking the rim. The next step in the evolution of his game is going to be becoming a more reliable shooter as he is sub 30% this season and defenses will start playing him to drive more.
Elijah Clinton Elijah Clinton 6'6" | CG Western | 2025 FL , Western – “Musa” has all the tools to be a Division I recruit and is starting to get an opportunity on a loaded Western roster. Long and very athletic, Clinton can switch on defense with ease and has the offensive weapons that should entice coaches this spring and summer. If he starts to bulk up, Elijah could be a breakout star in Louisville over the next 2 years.
Jay Rose Jay Rose 6'4" | SG Madison Southern | 2024 State KY , Madison Southern – Rose is having a huge season overall and his last few weeks have been really notable. With a school record 48 point performance last week and another 30+ point game this week, Jay is showing he can score with the best of them in the 11th region. Colleges are starting to take notice and the 6’4 guard could be in line for a big AAU season.
James Mayor James Mayor 6'10" | C Ashland | 2024 State KY , Ashland – Mayor is still a work in progress but he’s 6’11, long and athletic and can rim run on offense as well as protect the rim on defense. James is still just a role player for the Tomcats right now but EYBL and 3SSB teams have been sniffing around him as he has elite length and athleticism. With a big summer, Mayor could see D1 offers in his near future.
Brett Decker Brett Decker 6'2" | PG Central Hardin | 2024 State #211 Nation KY , Central Hardin – One of the breakout stars of the 5th region this season, Decker is averaging 21 points per game with 55-47-71 shooting splits and leads the Bruins in almost every offensive category. Brett has the tools to be as impactful on defense as he is on offense and could work his way onto the radars of colleges this summer.
