As matchups start to come together we are starting a new series heading into post season play with guys in each classification who’s stocks could soar with big post season runs and racking up some playoff wins with strong play.
5A East Region Sub-State
Ty Hofer Ty Hofer 6'4" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2022 State KS , 6’4 G, Basehor Linwood, 2022: Been a hot and cold season so far for the traditional sharp shooting guard. Since the winter break though, Hofer is rounding into form, shooting the ball from 3 with confidence and at a high level, especially in rhythm off the catch. Hofer is also an underrated defender and rebounder. At 17-2, Basehor has big playoff aspirations and Hofer’s shooting abilities and versatility as a defender on the big stage could bode well for the 2022 guard.
Jacorey Robinson, 6’4 W, Highland Park, 2025: The freshman has come on to the scene and developed into a very important role player for a really good Scotts team. A big state tournament run will help get this energetic and versatile guard on a lot of people’s radars early, and especially ours. He can be the spearhead of a high pressure defense, is a very smart passer at a young age, finishes well in the painted area, and his athleticism is a difference maker. Poised for a big high school career starting this sub state.
Sebastian Hamm Sebastian Hamm 6'2" | PG Blue Valley Southwest | 2022 State KS , 5’11 PG, Blue Valley Southwest, 2022: The point guard is bringing his best play of the season at the home stretch of the season, boding well for the post season. A sharp shooting point guard that is poised and can run an offense with efficiency and knock down the 3 ball in the flow of the game. Has a good handle as well and can play off the drive game as well. BVSW making a run will get Hamm some more and much deserved attention from the college ranks. (pictured)
Luke Metcalf, 6’1 G, Spring Hill, 2023: A long guard with poise in the back court. The junior guard can get hot from the 3 point line, and really is effective shooting off screens and off the catch. Had a 6 three point made game earlier this season. If he gets hot in substate, Spring Hill has a shot to play spoiler and getting Metcalf some much deserved attention. He is also a really good rebounder from the guard spot.
Jaron Briggs Jaron Briggs 6'4" | CG Piper | 2022 State KS Jr., 6’4 G, Piper, 2022: Our high ranking player who we can see getting a stock rising bump this post season, potentially raising him into the next echelon of status in the rankings. Brigg’s is leading a dangerous Piper team that follows the mold in which he plays himself, tough, quick, and with imposing athleticism. Brigg’s is a bucket getter from all 3 levels and has game take over ability, something you want in the post season. A big run and output from Brigg’s could jump him up some spots.
5A West Region Sub-State
Carson Kieffer Carson Kieffer 6'1" | PG Hays | 2022 State KS , 6’ PG, Hays, 2022: A total package in the backcourt, the leader for one of the perennial favorites has a chance to bump that stock up quite a bit with a run here. Sneaky athletic, can get ya on his hip, plays downhill, and a point guard who really understands the situation in big ball games. Kieffer with eyes focused on post season play will catch some attention.
Teagan Charles Teagan Charles 6'5" | SF Kapaun | 2024 State KS , 6’4 Combo Guard, Kapaun, 2024: A sneaky X-Factor in these 5 A playoffs is Charles. A perimeter centric and versatile player, Charles gives a good and deep Kapaun team a movable chess piece on the board. Can shoot it, guard a ton of positions and play styles, rebounds it, and a solid slasher.
Carter Coombs Carter Coombs 5'11" | CG Great Bend | 2024 State KS , 5’11 PG, Great Bend, 2024: The 2024 class in 5A is so good, and a ton of guys have a chance to really show what they got on the big stage and get their stocks up, Coombs is one of those guys. A knock down shooter with extreme range, great sense of pace and running the break in transition, and has some moxie in the back court. Great Bend is a sneaky team to make a run.
Colin Frazier, 6’5 W, Arkansas City, 2025: Another freshman who has a chance to get on some radars, Ark City has not had the season they wanted potentially, but Frazier is a young upstart and player with a high ceiling. Playing on the big stage, his ability to shoot the ball with his length will stand out.
Brad Harris Brad Harris 6'0" Andover | 2023 KS , 6’1 G, Andover, 2023: Another X Factor for a 5A team with a chance to make a hugh difference on the biggest of stages. Harris has good size, makes timely plays on defense and offense, is shot ready and shot capable from the perimeter, and is one of many high IQ guys on a loaded Andover team.
