With the second round just around the corner, players and teams won’t have any time to relax so let’s jump right and take a look at some of the top performers on the East side of the bracket.
Pine Forest Junior Jordan Jones Jordan Jones 6'6" | SG Pine Forest | 2023 NC has been on a roll lately, he led his team in scoring in the conference championship game and had a big time showing against Broughton in the first round. The 6’6 prospect scored 25 Points and pulled down 11 Rebounds in the win, scoring inside and out while showcasing his versatility.
The Richmond County Raiders have been known as a second half team all season and the first round of the tournament was no different. They faced a deficit at halftime but came out in the 3rd quarter on a mission and one of the players that produced was Sophomore Guard Jamarion Wall Jamarion Wall 5'11" | PG Richmond County Senior | 2024 State NC . Wall led his team in scoring with 19 Points, knocking down shots from outside and being solid on the defensive end which allowed his team to get out into transition.
St. Pauls dominated their first-round matchup against Roanoke Rapids, and one of the reasons why was the play of Unsigned Senior Guard Jeyvian Tatum Jeyvian Tatum 6'3" | CG St Paul's | 2022 State NC . Tatum scored a game high of 25 Points and is continuing to prove why he’s one of the top unsigned seniors on the east side of the state.
College coaches should be making a trip to New Hanover HS before it’s too late! Why? Not only is this team undefeated for the season but they also feature one of the top unsigned seniors in the state in Wing Mikhail Pocknett Mikhail Pocknett 6'6" | PF New Hanover | 2022 State NC . In Round 1 he went for 22 Points & 13 Rebounds, which is what we have seen from him on a consistent basis this season.
Millbrook HS Freshman W/F Colt Langdon Colt Langdon 6'7" | SG Millbrook | 2025 State #114 Nation NC saw his first state playoffs action and put together an impressive showing against New Bern. Scoring 24 points and playing with a high level of intensity in the blowout win, this young man already looks comfortable playing in some big-time games.
Swansboro HS pulled off the upset against #13 J.H Rose, and a huge part of why they were able to pull off the win, was the performance of Senior Guard Gerren Jones Gerren Jones 6'0" | CG Swansboro | 2022 State NC . He scored 24 Points in the win which placed him over 1,000 points for his career but most importantly his team will get the opportunity to advance and continue their outstanding season.
East Carteret picked up a nice win over JF Webb after getting some nice production from their young backcourt that you should be very fun to watch in the years to come. Sophomore Guard Shamel Baker Shamel Baker 6'0" | PG East Carteret | 2024 State NC led the team with 26 Points while his backcourt running mate Sophomore Guard Charles Matheka Charles Matheka 5'11" | SG East Carteret | 2024 State NC scored 24 Points in the win. Both of these young men know how to put the ball in the bucket and will only get better as time goes on, they are clearly two players to watch closely over the next two years.
