High Potential Junior Point Guards
In this article:
The regular season has a month left and at this point we have a pretty big sample size of games to judge teams off of. Here’s a look at some 2023 prospects who have shown they have potential as college prospects.
Jamal Chambers Jamal Chambers 6'2" | PG Fern Creek | 2023 State KY , Western – Chambers is on his way back from an ACL tear but there is a reason he earned an early offer from D2 Kentucky State and interest from several schools across all scholarship levels. Jamal is a shot maker who likes the big moment. It’s unlikely he’ll play again until summer ball but with a big Senior season, Jamal can work his way onto D1 radars.
Nick Spalding Nick Spalding 6'0" | PG Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2023 State KY , Dunbar – Nick has been an impact player in Lexington’s 2023 class for a few years now and there may not be a better microwave scorer in central Kentucky. Spalding can get hot in a hurry and has “in the gym” range when he’s feeling it. The 6’0 guard has bulked up in the last 12 months or so and is better at taking contact in the paint and finishing at the rim against bigger bodies.
Trent Hinkle Trent Hinkle 5'11" | PG Western | 2023 State KY , Western – If you ever attend a game at Western high school, you’ll hear the PA guy refer to Hinkle as “The Captain” anytime he scores or has an assist. Trent has the vocal leader part of being a point guard down pat and has become an elite shooter this season. The 5’11 guard has already earned an early offer from IU-Southeast and should have a chance to impress plenty of schools this summer.
Sam Parrish Sam Parrish 6'0" | PG George Rogers Clark | 2023 State KY , George Rogers Clark – Parrish is probably the best vertical leaper in the state, pound for pound. When he’s in the open court, Sam will seek out contact when attempting to dunk on anyone in his path. At GRC, he plays both on and off the ball and continues to improve his long range shooting year after year. With a big summer of AAU, Sam could earn multiple offers.
Bradin Nelson Bradin Nelson 6'3" | PG Webster County | 2023 State KY , Webster County – Bradin has great positional size and athleticism at 6’3 and is a true three level scorer who thrives in the midrange where he can knock down pull up jumpers because he elevates really well. Nelson has a lot of skill and high basketball IQ that should make an impression on coaches this summer.
Parker Payne Parker Payne 6'1" | PG South Laurel | 2023 State KY , South Laurel – Parker is a player who doesn’t get a lot of recognition because of where he lives but should have scholarship offers this time next year. Payne leads South Laurel in nearly every category and is a playmaker who is a crafty finisher. He’s also shooting better than 40% from three this season. If I were coaching at a school like Lindsey Wilson or Campbellsville, I’d have Payne on my big board. He can play in the Mid South Conference.
