Memorial has had one of the top basketball programs in Oklahoma since the turn of the century and head coach Bobby Allison has taken them to the next level over the last decade. The Chargers have been the kings of Class 5A basketball and they appear to be ready for another run at the throne after losing in the quarterfinals of the state tournament a year ago.
In Class 5A, all signs point to Memorial and Del City meeting for the state championship in March. They met in December with Del City rallying to beat the Chargers to capture the Tournament of Champions crown. Both teams have only gotten stronger since their December encounter. Del City has won 13 straight games and the winning streak began during that tournament in Tulsa. Memorial hasn’t lost since falling to Del City, winning their last six games with only one game decided by less than 30 points and that was a 25-point victory.
The Chargers are putting together their final tuneups before playoffs begin in two weeks. Once again, the Chargers are the #1 seed on the east side in Class 5A and will face TPS rival East Central in the opening round. They beat the Cardinals by 39 a few weeks ago. Memorial hosted another high 5A seed in Bishop McGuinness for a rare Wednesday evening game and it ended in another Memorial rout as they beat the Irish 94-63 and it was much worse than that. The Chargers led by 42 after the third quarter and could have named the final score.

The Chargers are loaded and ready for another meeting with Del City, if that rematch ends up happening.
Memorial closes out the regular season with home games against Lawton Eisenhower on Saturday night and NOAH on Monday night.
