That was proven on Thursday night on the campus of St. John’s Christian Academy in Moncks Corner as the homestanding Cavaliers hosted the Generals of Cathedral Academy out of North Charleston.
What appeared to at first be a blowout turned into a rather entertaining game with the Generals prevailing by a final tally of 68-56.
Prep Hoops was on site in Moncks Corner for the matchup between the two Single-A SCISA participants. Here are some notes and takeaways from the evening’s action.
Back-To-Back
Following a dominant 70-37 performance from the Cathedral Academy girls team, the boys team picked up where the girls left off, ensuring the Generals would make it a clean sweep before heading on the buses back to North Charleston.
It’s Not How You Start…
If the first quarter was any indication in the boys game, it looked as if Cathedral Academy would have taken this one going away. The Generals started the game hot with an 18-0 run to put St. John’s Christian in a deep hole.
The Cavaliers then embarked on a furious comeback where the 18-point gap was cut down to six (32-26) at the half and then to two (47-45) with three frames in the books.
Back in Late November…
The scene was in North Charleston the last time the Generals and Cavaliers had met up. That get-together was a bit more lopsided than Thursday night’s matchup with the Generals prevailing by a final of 91-63.
Seventh Heaven
The Generals have been on a hot streak as of late and its victory over St. John’s Christian Academy runs the win streak for coach Blake Ferguson’s team to seven consecutives.
Head coach Drew Crowell’s Cavaliers appear to be playing effective basketball as well despite the defeat to Cathedral Academy. Prior to Thursday night’s loss, St. John’s Christian Academy were winners of five of its previous six games – including getting in the win column in its previous four matchups against regional opponents.
