Region 14 Breathitt County vs
Region 15 Pikeville
Breathitt County – Junior Forward, Christian Collins Christian Collins 6'8" | PF Breathitt County | 2023 State KY (#22 in c/o of 2023)
Throughout the entire tournament, Collins’ impressive length was on display. Offensively, he manufactured several put-back layups and tip-ins off rebounds. In transition, he had multiple emotionally charged dunks that infused life into his teammates. Collins primarily worked inside the paint area but knocked down a couple of outside shots. Perimeter scoring will be an area of growth for him going into his senior campaign. Both Collins and Austin Sperry Austin Sperry 6'3" | SG Breathitt County | 2025 State KY put pressure on the defense by constantly attacking the paint with the ball. After a hard-fought game, Collins finished with a team-high 20 points.
Pikeville – Senior Guard, Keian Worrix Keian Worrix 5'7" | PG Shelby Valley | 2022 State KY (Top 125 in c/o 2022)
As noted in our coverage of Friday’s games, Worrix is the emotional leader for the Panthers. From the opening tip, Worrix brought the intensity on defense garnering multiple deflections that led to transition opportunities. He baited the Bobcat guards to speed up their approach which threw them out of sync. Worrix shined on offense, too. He does a great job to set up screens and maneuvered around the paint until he found an open shooter or a crease to shoot a floater. Pikeville has a lot of firepower on offense and Worrix is the straw that stirs the drink. He finished with 9 points and 3 steals.
Pikeville – Senior Guard, Laithan Hall Laithan Hall 6'0" | PG Pikeville | 2022 State KY (#63 in c/o 2022)
Finally, Hall has a game where everything clicked. Overall, Hall played great in the previous 3 games but was looking for a signature game to put it all together. This was it. He made multiple clutch 3-pointers that gave the crowd a boost of energy. He played tough defense and was rewarded with transition layups. Hall is a patient player that does a great job of staying engaged with the action without being greedy. He rarely forces a bad play nor does he selfishly gamble on defense. Hall had an exceptional tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Pikeville defeated Breathitt County 53-44 capturing their first All A Classic State Tournament Championship Trophy.
