’22 Lebron Thomas Shines at SJIT
I had the pleasure of attending the Saint James Invitational Tournament a couple weekends back to catch teams from around the country in action. Of the talented and loaded field, 2022 guard Lebron Thomas Lebron Thomas 6'2" | CG Trinity Collegiate | 2022 State SC was a standout for Trinity Collegiate in their win over Scotland Campus. Thomas was instrumental in the effort scoring 29 points as he proved himself as a valuable and available senior who can fill a lead guard position.
Thomas holds three offers, two of which date back to 2020 from Bryant and USC-Upstate. Mount Olive offered the 6-foot-2 lefty last summer, but since the high school season other programs are starting to show interest.
Thomas told Prep Hoops those programs include Furman, UNC-Greensboro and Old Dominion, with others as well who are checking up on him.
“The coaches from the programs recruiting me just tell me that they like that I play hard. I play really hard. They like how I get up and down the court and they love people like me who can attack and play both sides of the floor,” Thomas said.
Thomas got downhill at will in the game that I saw against Scotland. He has quick burst off the catch and keeps his defender on his backside as he enters the paint and dissects the rotating defense. He comes equipped with a strong frame that is no stranger to contact on his trips to the rim and when he draws fouls, he converts at an efficient rate from the line. Thomas knocked down two triples in the contest, but knows that his shooting is an area for improvement moving forward.
“Things I have to improve would probably include my shooting, but I’ve been working on that my whole high school career. Just becoming more consistent so that the defense has to account for me at all times.”
With the programs starting to reach out to Thomas recently, he’s not in any sort of rush to come to a decision, but he knows that when a program shows him what he is prioritizing in a school, it won’t be a difficult decision.
“First thing for me is becoming a part of a program that’s like family. The second thing I’m looking for and that most people are looking for is to play and get some time as a freshman.”
One of the ways that Thomas stood out while he wasn’t scoring was his leadership and communication. Trinity built a strong lead in the first half before Scotland put together a comeback effort, but Thomas remained positive and supplied consistent energy on both ends to help his team regain momentum and ultimately, the win.
