Omar Staples Jr Omar Staples Jr 6'4" | CG Oakland Tech | 2023 State CA-N . 6’4 G/F of Oakland Tech.
This was a breakout season for Staples. He’s been playing consistent basketball, and helped lead his team to a 21-4, 9-1 record. He averaged 12.8pts, 8.9rebs a game. He’s a big G/F with good control of his body. He uses his handles and body to get into the paint area. He’s a strong player who works well in the post. He can hit the short jumper, and attack along the baseline. He’s a key rebounder for this team.
Colton Dukes Colton Dukes 6'1" | SG Atwater | 2023 State CA-N 6’1 CG of Atwater.
Dukes has been a consistent performer and a key player for his team 19-9, 9-3. He’s the teams leading scorer with 19.3 a game and at 6’1 led the team in rebounds with 7.8 per game. He’s done well playing both guard position, but is most effective off the ball looking for his shot. He’s aggressive going into the paint and he has shot making abilities out on the perimeter. He’s a tough competitor. We’ll see more of him.
Derek Lamb Derek Lamb 6'6" | PF Whitney | 2023 State CA-N 6’7 PF/C of Oakmont
Lamb is a good sized player who’s steadily improving his game. He’s averaging 9.0pts, and 7.7 rebs, 1.5 blocks. He has good presence on defense, he’ll block and change shots. His offense is coming along, he’s a big target in the post with a decent drop step move. He has the size and length, but needs to hit the weights to be a more effective scorer in the paint. He gives good effort. He’s on Wright’s watch list.
Malachi Miller Malachi Miller 6'3" | SG Central Catholic | 2023 State CA-N 6’4 G, F, of Central Catholic, Modesto
We like Millers size and strength. At 6’4 he does multiple things on the court to help his team 22-9, 8-4. He’s improved his 3pt shot along the perimeter, which makes him harder to deal with when he decides drive it to the basket. He has the muscle and strength to play physical in the paint, finishing strong on put backs, and haul in rebounds to start the transition break. He averaged 19.3pts, 7.4rebs a game.
Sam Norris Sam Norris 6'6" | SF Sacred Heart Prep | 2023 State CA-N 6’7 F of Sacred Heart Prep
Norris has been quietly getting the job done for SHP all season long. He’s the starting forward for a team a sporting a 23-4, 14-0, and expected to make some noise in the playoffs. He’s been playing good interior defense, using his length to change shots, actively going after rebounds, and he defends with good effort. He needs to get stronger. 8.7pt, 6.0rebs.
Micah Hobson Micah Hobson 6'4" | SF Capital Christian | 2023 State CA-N 6’5 W/F of Capital Christian
Hobson is an athletic player with an improving set of skills. He has a basketball body, long armed, good strength, and moves well on the court. He can play outside and be effective inside. On the perimeter he can shoot the 3, or drive inside, he’ll slash, and cut to the basket. He has good length and footspeed to defend in the open court. He’ll help on the boards. He’s on Wright’s Watch list.
Robert Morgan Robert Morgan 6'4" | SF Moreau Catholic | 2023 State CA-N 6’5 W/F of Moreau Catholic
Morgan is a good athlete with room to grow his game. He’s an improving wing player, and a court runner, he could be one of those run and jump kind of players. He’s a contributor without scoring a bunch of points. He plays good defense, goes after rebounds and finishes strong at the basket whether it’s in the paint off two feet, or finishing from transition.
Luke Kremer Luke Kremer 6'5" | SF Pleasant Valley | 2023 State CA-N 6’4 SG of Pleasant Valley, Chico
A big guard with good fundamentals. He has good awareness on defense, he plays the passing lanes, gets steals 2.0pg, and passes up to teammates in the open court. He’s good on the perimeter with a threat of knocking down open 3’s, and passing to teammates slashing, and cutting to the basket. 12.7pts, 6.7rebs, 2.0stls.
Trevor Alfstad Trevor Alfstad 6'7" | C Granite Bay | 2023 State CA-N 6’7 PF of Granite Bay
Alfstad has been the man in the middle leading Granite Bay to a divisional finals this season. He’s been making steady progress since the summer. He’s a big body, doesn’t move fast but moves with some effect. He’s an alert player on defense getting his hands on the ball in different ways. He has presence in the paint he can score, rebound, and body up other bigs. He’s close to a joining the double-double club.
