After heading out to multiple WPIAL games recently, let’s take a look at some of the top guards that have been playing at a high-level.
Luke Shanahan – 6’4″ G/W – Pine Richland
Shanahan impressed on Thursday with 22 points in a win over Allderdice. Showcased a smooth outside shot, aggressive driving ability, and confidence in everything he did. Built like a football player, has a strong base and very solid fundamentals.
Makhai Valentine – 6’2″ Guard – Steel Valley
Valentine, one of the top scorers in the entire WPIAL, continued to lead the way for Steel Valley on Thursday with 29 points. Super smooth guard that plays at his own pace and controls the offense.
JP Dockey – 6’1″ Guard – Fox Chapel
Dockey controls the pace for the 15-1 Foxes and has ran the point as well as anyone in the area as of late. He finished with 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting in a win over McKeesport on Wednesday.
Jameson O’Toole – 6’2″ Guard – Pine Richland
O’Toole contributed nine points and eight rebounds in PR’s win over Allderdice on Thursday. A tough combo guard, O’Toole ran the point at times and also worked off the ball. Used his strong build to get inside position on smaller defenders. Crisp passer, great rebounder for his position.
